In Transition: Shattenkirk is Starting to Take Over the St. Louis Blue Line
The Blues defense has been a roller coaster ride this season for a variety of reasons, but Kevin Shattenkirk is showing he has what it takes to be a #1 d-man, and here's why.

He's been exactly what I expected him to be. A decent vet who will give you a chance to win (especially with the point payout stipulation in his contract) when he's in. Is he stellar, no, but he's the true veteran that Jake Allen needs to continue his development. I also think Marty has been an incredibly positive influence in the locker room (again, as to be expected), which came at quite possibly the perfect time because of rising frustrations among teammates right before he showed up (see: Backes, Tarasenko scuffle). Hopefully he stays around in either more of a coaching role, or in an intermittent playing one for as long as possible this year.
