i don\'t believe that Sakic is retiring this year, i actually think he\'ll hang out until after captaining Canada at the Oly\'s in 2 years.
i take Kopitar, Sakic, Gonchar in a points only league.
Points Only Keeper League...Which do you prefer? I have a shot at the title now...
1) Savard, Frolov, Chara
2) Kopitar Sakic Gonchar (with the risk that sakic retires)

4C 4LW 4RW 6D 2G with 6 man bench

Why the defenceman in each grouping?
1) Savard, Frolov, Chara
Savard for straight points by a whole bunch. He might have led the NHL in assists last year had he remained healthy.
2) Kopitar Sakic Gonchar
Skip Sakic. Let someone else play with that ugly scenario. Kopitar might outscore Sakic this year if they both play. Sakic would have more injury risk too. Now, if you\'re playing with defencemen Gonchar is in danger to lead all NHL blueliners in scoring this coming year. He might have the poorest odds in Vegas at the moment! So, if you\'re playing with defencemen, I\'d take Gonchar.
If you\'re going for it now then i\'d take option 2.
Just to clarify JHM....Its one group or the other. No choosing within the groups
And yes we play D-men in our pool

Sorry, out to lunch with that answer.
I rate the 1st group at about 205 points.
The second group at 225. Between health concerns for Sakic and wondering if he\'ll play...
You decide!
1st group 205
2nd group 220
I think sakic will try to stick it out til 2010. If injuries get in the way or if he struggles big time I can see him hanging it up after next year. I\'m 80% he\'ll be back to play.
The fact sakic may have max 2 years and gonchar 2-4 would make me lean towards savard side though.
14th year-12 team-Keep 10 + 5 farm
C-Larkin, Trochek, Pavelski, Hayes, R Strome
LW-Huberdeau, Meier, Kreider

D-Letang, Hamilton, Carlson, Burns, Giordano
G-Andersen, Lehner, Jones
IR-Tarasenko
Farm - Vilardi, Newhook, McMichael, Gusev, Holtz
I would take group Savard, but that is me reading Sakic as likely gone and Gonchar as getting on in years.

I agree wholeheartedly. If you are going for it this year, de not squander your chances on such a useless risk. Sakic might not comeback, might come back later in the season or even miss 20-30 games du to injury (he is showing serious weakness because of his age). If any of the earlier scenarios happen (65% odds one of them happening) you will blow your chance.
i would rather take calculated risks elsewhere.
I would take door number one. Too much risk involved if Sakic retires. Savard is under-rated anyway.
If you knew Sakic was coming back for sure, then I would take door number 2.

Hold on as late as you can, just in case something does develop on the Sakic front but I would take his grouping. you gotta ssume all 6 players are going to play all season, and the 2nd group is stronger by, 15-20 points
14 team keeper league (keep 15 plus 3 prospects)
19 active, 8 bench, 2 prospects less than 40 NHL games. Play h2h with postions 3c, 3lw, 3rw, (3 felx forwards) 5d, 2g

I have to side with the Savard side as well - I think Sakic will be back, but I just don\'t see the point in taking that chance if you have to decide now. The point spread on these groups is probably at worst 20 and it could easily be less.
agreed and JM makes a good point about Savard, I had him last year in my one year league and he was a near constant assist per game.
Savard, Frolov, Chara
Savard - 89
Frolov - 68
Chara - 49
------------
Total 206
Kopitar - 83
Sakic - 70
Gonchar - 67
-------------
Total - 220
Obviously the big variable to the overall decision is whether Sakic retires or not, plus his health.
To me, I would much rather have Gonchar over Chara, such a huge pts difference and to me the kicker on why I would lean to that side in your overall decision.
The question I would be asking myself is if Sakic retires, what type of player would I be able to pick-up to take his place? If it\'s a least a 60pt player then I would still go with the Kopitar/Sakic side of this deal even if the Sakic retirement question is influencing you to take the Savard/Frolov side.
No question, many underrate Savard and Sakic is a huge risk but I would still go with Side 2.
The forwards in this deal are a wash, Gonchar > Chara by miles. Good luck in your decision.
Cheers.
