OEL by a mile. Might be a different story if Doughty were in a different situation, but as it stands right now it's OEL by a wide margin IMO.

    Ekman-Larsson for sure.

And here's the funny thing.....Doughty always gets a pass because he plays such hard minutes while the fact he leads the Kings in PP ice time gets ignored. OEL gets those same exact minutes and outproduces Doughty two years in a row now. Just something that's bugged me about Doughty for awhile.

I am going to go with Drew Doughty. You simply don't pass up on the best defenceman in the NHL. He's definitely going to beat OEL in +/- and likely in PIMs. Every other stat could go either way but I would rather have the dman running a PP with Kopitar, Carter, Williams, Gaborik, Toffoli, Voynov, etc then one who's on a PP with Yandle, Hanzal , Boedker, Vermette, Doan or Samwise Gagner.

Take these thoughts for what you will because I think Drew Doughty will win the Norris Trophy this year and lead all non-Erik Karlsson dmen in points.

I was sort of with you until this part...

I like Doughty, a lot. I agree that he is the best dman in the NHL, but I don't think he will win the Norris and he certainly will not put up anything more than 45 pts, at most. There will be many dmen besides Karlsson with more points than Doughty.

Well, Doughty is still good in fantasy. He's just not an elite option like he is in real life. 40-ish points with good hits, blocks, and PIM, shots, +/-....he's a very good option in fantasy. It's just the hype from "real hockey" doesn't carry over to fantasy for him. That 59 point season doesn't help as everyone is still waiting for a repeat of that.

Real life Doughty by a mile, but in fantasy life OEL by a mile. It’s as simple as OEL contributes in categories that are harder to find replacements. G, A, Pts, PPP. Doughty does hits, PIMs, +/-, Blocks, but all those are easier to find in late round picks.

OEL brings hard to obtain stats for d-men to the table, whereas Doughty brings the easy to find stats. It’s like someone bringing a exotic fruit platter to dinner (Doughty), then another guest bringing fresh sirloin cuts (OEL). Both fill a need, both cost the same, you just rather the one.
