Holy crap, this is quite the setup. I just read the webpage for the Bucket. Love it!
We are the best fantasy hockey league around: Puck Hogs Local 242, celebrating our 13th year. Last year we had four divisions and 60 teams. Each division has a full roster of NHL players available so don’t worry, you won’t be fighting for Nashville 4th liners . We have the Hanrahan, McCracken, Wanchuk, and Tuttle divisions and are looking to expand into a new Poodle Lussier division (“note Poodle!) all named after your favorite movie. Use the "email the Commish" link on http://www.puckhogslocal242.com/contact-us.html if interested in getting signed up! Please mention that James A "sent you".
We want you in the league whether you are a semi-ignorant blow-hard or a mute spreadsheet monkey reading QMJHL scouting reports. We have a ton of fun on our message board (clever trash-talk, insightful commentary on NHL ice girls, etc) and some of us get together for a somewhat annual event: Puckapalooza (past locations: Hartford, Seattle, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Toronto, Los Angeles).
We have a very cool H2H playoff format that you’ve never seen anywhere else. We also have cool trophies and awards including The Bucket (http://www.puckhogslocal242.com/the-bucket.html) awarded annually to our league champion.
Key things to check out to find out about us:

You're welcome to post any questions here, but links like the New Puck Hog FAQ will tell you a lot. Why waste your time with a keeper league where people quit every year because their team sucks. Get into our yearly draft, go against 60+ people and hopefully come out to our Pucka-paloozas and meet your league mates for some "sodas"!

I'm super interested but waffling on whether I want to spend $100. The league really does look fantastic and I'd be a lock if it was a free league, but I've tended to shy away from money leagues in the past few years. Overall it's a pretty solid setup, but there is enough randomness injected into it that I would need to view my $100 as the yearly subscription fee to play.
No problem, I get it. The $100 was a hard choise we made a few years ago. We reached $100 after MANY years. $100 really separates the committed from the non-committed. It's really a 1 year league that renews on an "opt-in" basis. There is no way we are going to jack the price to $150 next year, but even if we did, you're under no obligation. It's all Leaguesafe controlled for the fees and payouts. NO ONE running this profits. The only money take out of the fees are web-hosting costs or any fees we have to pay to run the league. Our commish has one hand on the keyboard and one hand holding a new baby this year, and he doesn't keep a dime (unless he wins anything -- but that hasn't happened in YEARS ) $100 means differenent things to different people, to me it's a bargain for the year. I only play 1 team though, so that it keeps things interesting for me. I won't pretend that I don't shake my head in bewilderment at people that play in 100 leagues, but we have all sorts of people and personalities in the league. You multi-leaguers are MORE than welcome, we have quite a few in the league already.
At the very least, you can go to the 'Contact' link and ask to be added to the Message Board. Just tell the Commish that you're not committed yet and that you want to poke around. Don't worry, if we don't have your $, you won't be drafting

What are the roster sizes and positional requirements?
Hopefully you can access this link - let me know if you cannot (it's our Wanchuk division settings page - should be public viewable) - http://games.espn.go.com/fhl/leagues...leagueId=18097
Positional requirements are whatever ESPN does. When they switch Byf to be W only mid-season, blame ESPN, not us League size is likely 15 teams in each division (all 'divisions are separate ESPN 'leagues' with all players available and all the same settings with the exception of Draft Date) - that could rise or fall depending on number of owners we have. Last year we had 4 divisions of 15 (60 teams). I think the year before that was 3 divisions of 15 teams. We'd like to get to 75 teams this season and add a 5th division of 15. Whatever the number of total teams, we will balance it out between 4 or more different divisions
FYI, the Utility allows D and F. We used to go 6 F and 4 D, but we changed 2 of the F to U, so that on those odd nights where you have 5 D-men and only 2 F playing, you can start the 5 D. One other note, we set for 30 moves in the regular season (not including trades - trades are unlimted). For playoffs, we reset each round to allow 3 moves per round for all teams that move forward and unused moves do NOT carry over round to round (although we are possibly tweaking this area). The point is, we try to run this so that "quantity" of adds/drops isn't how someone wins. The person who checks their ONE team every few days has just as good a chance at the Bucket as the person who checks 3 times a day and has 10 different leagues they play in.
Please don;t hesitate to reply if what I provided didn't get you your answers, or if anything else comes up. Hope you'll join us!

We have a great response so far to expanding, check us out. Why pay to be in a league with 9 to 11 random people you hardly know....come do that with 74 people you hardly know!
