Off-duty cop saves a man after gas station car crash

Nice video. It's a bit less crazy than it first appears though. I'm a fueling system contractor and fortunately all dispensers have a crash impact valve installed in the fuel piping at grade level. When a car makes contact with the dispenser it shears off the piping within the dispenser closing the impact valve. Although the turbine pump in the underground tank/s is still pumping fuel to the line, the valve does not allow fuel to feed the fire. If someone presses the Emergency Shutoff Switch typically located on the wall of the store, it will shut down all power to the turbine pumps and dispenser island/s.

The small fire immediately after the crash was the result of the spill of the fuel within the dispenser above this impact valve. The resulting large fire was mostly due the cars catching fire. Had someone grabbed a fire extinguisher the dispenser fire could have been put out safely prior to the cars igniting. In fact some fueling stations have extinguishers mounted below the dispenser to do this automatically.
