You've got to admire the amount of heart that takes, I played with a broken thumb for a series and could barely shoot the puck.
Also have to wonder though, playing that injured, if he actually hurt the team opposed to helping it.
Kris Letang, he of a variety of health issues this past season, apparently suffered a broken foot in game 6 against the Rangers and a broken hand in game 7. Hard to believe he still played for over 25 minutes in game 7.

It's a double-d'oh!

The hand didn't happen till after.....sounded like he punched a wall as result of the broken foot.

Hockey players are ridiculous.
Broken feet, broken hands, broken LEG, double seperated shoulders, burst testicle!
It's their bodies, and they can make the decisions as adults... But I don't think I'd be playing.
What's the most ridiculous injury that you have seen someone play through?

Playing provincials back in about 08, during the first period someone fell on our goalie and his leg twisted awkwardly. It was nothing malicious, and our goalie shook it off pretty quick and played the entire. We won the game 3-2 in OT, and he played very well, later to find out that he tore his ACL.
Yeah... it's pretty cool what hockey players can play through.
To be honest, though... I do wonder about the "magnitude" of the injury.
Hockey has gone all "Upper Body Injury" and "Lower Body Injury" these days.
So - what is a "broken hand"?
And - what is a "broken foot"?
If you are talking about the major bones in the main part of hand (carpals) than I'd be impressed.
But perhaps this is just finger tip/phalanges stuff.
I don't know.
Same goes with feet.
Play through a break in the cuneiforms, I'm impressed.
Metatarsals, impressed.
Phalanges, meh... I don't know.
I'd like to read more about how/when the breaks happen.
I've had hairline fractures in my wrist, ankle, toes before.
I think those could still be called a "break", I don't know.
Letang played big minutes, but he was largely ineffective in Game 6/7, from what I remember.
And... I hate to say it... but could a player just drop that kind of line on lockerroom clean-out day and win over some fans that are maybe considering he's the piece to move.
He can say it and disappear for the next four weeks without any need for providing further detail on it.
I don't know...
I have some doubts here on the severity of the injury & still being able to play 25min.
It either wasn't that major an injury (and he played) or it was that major an injury (and he shouldn'tve been playing).
Yes, hockey players are a tough breed.
More than anything, though, this tells me that Letang is beat up and injured far, far too often. Of course, we knew that already, but news like this only serves to solidify his BBB status. Were it the regular season, he would likely have been out. Again.
By all means, let's keep making sticks so that nearly everyone can shoot it over 100 mph (162 km/hr) and keep improving on that so that eventually we will kill a hockey player (puck may actually go right through a player). Why does baseball not use aluminum bats? One reason is the safety (see that word NHL?) of the players. The other is that stupid "dink" sound that aluminum bats make.

I think part of it is they don't realize how hurt they are when they are playing. Adrenaline maybe.
A few years back, a kid from Newfoundland was playing in a tourney. At some point in Game 2, the Newfie goalie went down to make a save and injured himself. He thought he had pulled a muscle, and continued to play. He ended up leading the team to the championship.
Afterwards, he went to check out the problem, and according to a CBC story, it turned out he had “four broken ribs and a punctured lung, and that air had begun to seep into his spine, a rare development that puzzled doctors as far away as Toronto.”

Burst testicle. My last year of university hockey, and a rookie went down to block a shot. The shot caught the kid in the junk. He slowly made it back to the bench and missed one shift before soldiering on through the rest of the game. Afterwards in the locker room, he started to panic when getting undressed and his left nut was three times bigger than normal. A hospital trip was in order, and surgeons removed the ruptured testicle. He returned to the ice four weeks later, but didn't block anymore shots. In fact, I don't think any of us did for the rest of the season. Tough kid!

Its too bad for Letang, he was really starting to get the flow and kick in his game back. A terrible year, hopefully he can return next season in full health and show us all how awesome he can be in an 82 game schedule.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
