Evaluate my draft (please and thank you REP)

Overall I felt pretty happy with my draft. Over the summer had a couple huge losses in Kovalchuk and Kipper which arent easy holes to fill.

1) TRADE my 4th overall and 2nd round pick for the 6th overall and Tim Thomas

2) 3rd overall- Barkov (roster)

3) 6th overall- Monahan ( farm squad)

4)TRADE my 2014 1st rounder for 10th overall

10th overall- Lindholm (farm squad)

5) round two Curtis Glencross

6) round three Jiri Hudler

7) TRADE my Alex Burrows for Derak Stepan

8) round four Roman Josi

9) round five Janik Hannsen

10) round six Mark Giordano

Considering you also have PIM and hits, I think you made good moves. Barkov should be a nice multi-cat player. Giordano as well, good pick there. Trading Burrows for Stepan gives a little bit up but gains a lot of offense.

The trade to pick up Thomas might be very hit or miss, but I understand the idea. I'm also high on Josi and Monahan, seems that you did a fairly solid job overall.

Barkov seems the obvious choice at 3.

Dont really like the trade. Giving up a stud like like Jones(who would end up being your best defenceman) and a 2nd rdr(who did he take?) for Monahan and Thomas(not only a gamble but not in a good situation anyhow) is too much.

4)TRADE my 2014 1st rounder for 10th overall? That one we'll have to wait on. Things happen over the course of a season that affect standings. And while I like Lindholm I am not as high on him as others. Your team looks solid enough to probably challenge though so the pick wont be top 5.

I bolded the moves that I was a fan of. I thought those moves were OUTSTANDING. Not sure I like trading 1('14) for the 10th overall because:

1) I don't know how many teams are in the league
2) Don't know what the rest of your team looks like.
A) If this is a contending team, solid move. If not, could bite you.


Without the 2 points above answered, I am not sure how to grade this. Regardless of those points, I think you have plenty of reason to be happy walking away with Barkov, Monahan and Stepan after a 10 round draft. Talk about CORE players.

He took Kassian with the 2nd rounder and Nichushkin with the 4th overall. The guy who took Jones 5th is stacked on d and open to trade possibilities though...
