...but Brassard will get to play with future elite megastars like Zherdev and Filatov!!!!

    Interesting.

At the time of this thread, if my digging is correct, I imagine Brassard was lighting up the AHL for over a PPG while Ryan was bouncing between the NHL and AHL, posting ppg-ish numbers in the AHL and scoring one goal in 4 NHL GP (w/ limited minutes).

Ryan finished with better numbers in the NHL that year (5G 5A 23 GP) vs Brassard (1G 1A 17GP) but Brassard had better AHL numbers (15G 36A in 42GP) vs Ryan (21G 28A 48GP). Both were in their first pro seasons.

Post this a few months later while Ryan was having a better end to their first pro year in the NHL and you might've gotten a different answer.

However, the following season, Brassard roared out of the gate in the NHL (before the injury bug struck) while Ryan still spent a partial season in the AHL before getting called up and tearing up the NHL.

Ryan probably finally separated himself from Brassard in the 09/10 season.

Still a bit surprised it was completely unanimous at this point though.

I also prefer Brassard but some of his ice time will be due to how well Brad Richards comes off his down year. If Richards stumbles and Brassard grabs the opportunity then all bets are off and he is a point per game player. IMHO
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
