According to TSN Montreal Canadiens were granted persmission by the Maple Leafs to speak to Sundin\'s agent about the possibility of the 37-year-old centre signing in Montreal.

Considering how much Sundin has done for Toronto, what a good captain he has been and how beloved he is amongst MLSE and the alumni.....
Why would he consider the worst possible move that would surely make him a hated man in Toronto?
I have always backed and supported him, even through him blocking the trades and the rebuilding process. I accepted it because I felt if he desired to retire as the Leafs captain, he had earned that right.
This would be unforgivable. I truly hope it is not true as there is nothing worse that could possibly occur.

huh. I don\'t really have much to say about this. Interesting to see the Leafs allow the canadians to negotiate with him though... why help out a rival?

Wow. That\'s something special indeed.

We will see what happens.. But as a Habs fan, I can not see captain Sweden and captain Finland in the same team. You have no idea how those two rival countries hate each other when it comes to good old times hockey.

This match Koivu-Sundin could turn out to be the worst thing (à la Koivu-Kovalev) or the best thing (call it synergy or something).

Anyway, can\'t wait to see the result!!

Please. Get real. They did not let him go. He was traded for a hell of a lot. Mats is walking out for nothing.

Ray was traded to Colorado by Boston with Dave Andreychuk for Brian Rolston, Martin Grenier, Samuel Pahlsson and a 1st round draft pick in 2000 or 2001 Entry Draft, March 6, 2000.

PLUS.. Montreal is THE RIVAL. What animosity was there between Bos and Col?

Courtesy was letting him retire with dignity as the captain of the leafs. He said he did not want to be a \"rent-a-player\" even to win a cup.
Besides, if he just wants a cup, there are many better teams he could go to, that would not invoke the wrath of Leafland. Go to the west coast, play in Anaheim, San Jose, enjoy the sun. Hell even go to Vancouver... isn\'t that where all worn out Torontonians go anyway?

you guys are being melodramatic, no one ever imagined mahavolich in anything but Leafs jersey...certainly not a Wings or a Habs jersey but he played for both
