I figure if he is going to demand that money, they give it to him over six or seven years.
The deal does make sense if they assume that Carter will either be expendable at that point or out of their price range, though.
This is the first deal to give a young RFA an inflated salary that does not take away UFA years.

Carter was signed to only a three year deal so that they will have the ability to sign him long term after the numbers of Kimo, Hartnell, and Briere decrease (in three years). That is the reason for the term length.
I told everyone he would re-sign for about 5 (not 6)
