i really think it\'s as simple as not being able to afford him and nashville being almost certain to match.
Well, with Weber being a RFA this year and everyone seeing the kind of pairing Weber-Phaneuf has been in the past- why on earth wouldn\'t Calgary make a big run for Shea?!?!?!?!
I know there are some money issues for the Flames, but seriously - trade Tanguay for as little salary as possible (a high-ish pick if able), get Weber and throw Boyd on the wing in your top 6 as he deserves. Who knows - maybe a young guy like Puustinen could get thrown on the wing after camp.
Now I\'m by no means a Flames fan, but I\'m not as confident in their defensive corps as a lot of people are - so I\'m curious to see what you guys all think about this idea...
It would definitely take some heat off of K-Lowe...

Nashville will match anything Calgary has to offer, which is not much. The preds have all the cap room in the world.

I don\'t know if they\'d match ANY offer (as Nashville is very deep with young defenders), but they\'d likely match anything up to like 5 million or so.
I don\'t think that paying Weber anything over 5 million would really benefit Calgary that much.

Perhaps he did mean K-Lowe...as kevin is the one who got the ire of Burke for being the most notable stealer of talent...lately anyway...so maybe this would take the heat off Kevin...
Having said that...I\'m hoping that is what was meant :S

The money thing does make sense with Nashville having very heavy wallets, but they also have a lot of young guys coming up through the ranks and guys like Radulov and Suter to sign to good deals. With Franson, Blum, Laakso, Klein, etc. all in the system - would the Preds actually match in the right circumstances?
But ya, the whole difference in financial situations argument does hold up quite well for my question.
