I have not read this entire thread so I apologize if this is repetition or if I am mistaken, but doesn't Karlsson lead the league in takeaways? Just wondering, I thought I heard that or read it somewhere.
lol yes...
The Norris is a defensive award, Lidstrom was a shutdown defenseman that scored a billion points during his award winning career. I don't see Karlsson as that kind of talent on the defensive end (right now). As he grows and scored 70+ and is a defensive monster, by all means give him the award.
I figure he will get the award this season, but I don't agree with how Mike Green was overlooked.
Any as someone pointed out above, each teams GA is about the 233 for Wash in 09 and 229 for the Sens with two games left. The difference there is that Wash scored 318 goals that season whereas the Sens are at 240 at the moment. Damn Washington was good that year.
In 08-09 73 points +24 and the team scored 272 with 245 against. not too bad, but still shows that even though he scores at a good rate, he does play a decent defensive game.

Wow speedy response! Thanks!

Karlsson plays better defensively than Green. Wasn't saying he's amazing defensively yet, but looking at their +/- is not the way to evaluate it. Greening having a higher +/- in the year he didn't win doesn't mean anything right now. Karlsson has been the d-man with the most impact on games this year, by far.
by the way, Lidstrom was up for the Norris last year and was a -2 on a team that scored 261 goals.
I wasn't necessarily disagreeing with you. When I looked up the stats, it shows a clearer picture of why Green had a great plus minus that year, because Was scored so much.
Green was a big part of the offense and defence.. I agree that Karlsson is better somewhat defensively, but with the precedent that was set with Green not winning those two years, I don't feel Karlsson should run away with this one.
