Apparently Brodie blocked a shot against Pitts and needed an extra day, and that's why he was DTD.

They play Tuesday, in Pitts, and it sounds like it's Matt Murrays first game back. Should be interesting.

Roster updates:

D Jake Muzzin is out indefinitely due to a cervical spine injury. His status will be re-evaluated in late February.


D TJ Brodie has been placed on injured reserve (oblique injury).

Well I was wrong about Brodie.

Muzzin sucks, but if you followed what Leaf players were saying the last couple of yrs any time Muzzin got hurt, you knew this one was going to be a lonnng time off.

Jonas Siegel has said that Orlov, Zub, Mayfield and Connor Murphy are options for the Leafs. Doesn't say if the Leafs are interested in those players though.

Murray doesn't do a whole lot in optional skates the day of a game and typically partakes in stuff before practice then leaves (which he did), but to note Samsonov was in the starters net during practice. Murray's practice indicates he's likely starting. *Keefe confirmed Murray is starting*

Also Muzzin was sitting watching practice from like the 5th row. Good to see he can be in a lit arena and be there to watch (not concussion).

Keefe said Samsonov is still at least 2 games away from returning. So that would put his return the earliest Nov 21st vs NYI, but they go on a roadtrip for 4 games in 6 nights with a B2B starting Nov23-28th. I'd assume he is on that road trip and play one of the B2B games Nov25-26 if he is legitimately close to returning.

Was at the game last night and was very impressed at the game Benn played. Very physical and a no nonsense clear the zone type of game for him. Might as well say that the whole D played very well last night. Good sign for the goalies.

D are top 2 in defensemen giveaways I think this yr (as in, 2nd worst). However, they give up like no shots. Benn is the lite version of what Muzzin was, and what the Leafs need.

Leafs need dmen that don't have extra frills and get the puck to the forwards ASAP, and Benn is doing that. He's been a good fit. And Holl has played better, he's worked it out and he's now doing what at a minimum he should be doing. I still freaking hate him though lol.

What do they have to trade, or better yet, what are they willing to part with? I dont see Toronto in the mix, but who knows.

If the Leafs actually want to make a move for Chychrun, then I would say they have pieces that have value in the trade market (supposedly). Knies, Robertson, Abruzzese, Steeves, Niemela, Villeneuve, and they have their first round picks still. It's if they're willing to pay the price.

To be fair to the Leafs, they've dealt with Muzzin missing like all yr and Brodie recently. However, Rielly missing is HUGE. Sandin is going to be tested.
