No shit I'd rather have Soup, but it was clear we couldn't afford him from the get go. We can't afford Kuemper either.

So this is the next best thing that keeps us competitive while our window is still open.
This is a good way to sum it up. It really just depends on if Murray can stay healthy and how well he plays in the playoffs. This could be a stroke of genius or it could blow up spectacularly which would result in a new front office a year from now. I definitely like it better than signing one of the free agents or trading for Gibson.

So I think we all know that Murray was in the Soo with Dubas and Keefe, some might know Campbell was in the Soo with Dubas and Keefe, not many will know that Dubas and Keefe pulled off a trade to acquire Campbell because they didn't have confidence in Murray's ability.

Campbell was moved from Windsor to the Soo Nov 2011.

    Campbell:
    34gp, 15w, 12l, 5T/OT 3.58GAA, 0.892s%
    Murray:
    36gp, 13w, 19l, 1T/OT, 4.08GAA, 0.876s%

Not a fan of the move. BUT… I think it’s a move that guarantees change after this season.
    A) Either the Leafs have success and make it past Round one and so on or…
    B) this blows up and we have a significant front office change.

Either way, I think this judgement move will effect change one way or another. I’ll focus more on the team as a whole and less so This specific player.

Here's the Leafs roster/cap situation in my eyes:
    Bunting (0.95)-Matthews (11.64025) - Marner (10.903) = 23.49325m
    Robertson (0.796667) - JT (11) - Nylander (6.962366) = 18.729036m
    Kerfoot (3.5) - Kampf (1.5) - Engvall (2) = 7m
    XXXX (1) - Abruzzese (0.85) - Anderson (0.75) = 2.6m
    51.822286m

    Rielly (7.5) - Brodie (5) = 12.5m
    Muzzin (5.625) - Holl (2) = 7.625m
    Gio (0.8) - Liljgren (1.4) = 2.2m
    Sandin - RFA
    22.325m

    Murray (4.6875)
    Kallgren (0.75)
    5.4375m

This would have happened regardless of the trade for Murray.

We've signed forward Adam Gaudette to a one-year contract. #LeafsForever

Looks like the Leafs may just load up on wingers again and see who sticks come training camp

Yes, I agree it would have... but this now allows ME to BELIEVE IT and...be at peace with whichever outcome. (I guess) lol

Hey... it worked last time for all but Ritchie. I recall the eyes on Gaudette when he was up and coming in Vancouver. And Aubel Kubel... appears servicable in Philly and Colorado. I like it.

Aube-Kubel is a solid 4th liner - upgrade on Clifford & Simmonds - more mobile as well
Gaudette showed some life in Van. expect him to spend most of the year with the Marlies & be an injury call up. He's serviceable

Aston-Reece is the depth guy I want to see them sign.

Read a few rumours Acciari is close to signing.

Can't shake a Dylan Strome signing feeling. That 2yr 2.5 range.
I would hope Dubas kicks tires on Milano. be a nice depth addition with some mid-six potential

Anyone else want to see Engvall get a shot on wing with Tavares & Nylander this year?

Hoping Muzzin decides to waive his NTC. I'm worried about declining footspeed.

They gotta put somebody up there with JT and Nylander and I don’t see why they wouldn’t give Engvall the opportunity. I also would like it if they could get Aston-Reese signed.

Engvall is trending toward a late bloomer - 'big-man theory' breakout player. There's easy 50+pt potential with outside shot of hitting 60 in a 2nd line role.

I'd prefer the Leafs to go longer term with him 4-5 years and try to scoop that breakout at a lower cap hit for a year or two, before it happens

Leafs have Robertson they may actually give a shot to next yr with offensive players instead of pretending a 4th line role with Simmonds was fair.

Use to be a time you earned your stripes and 90% of kids started on the 4th line and won more ice time with solid play.
he has yet to show he deserves 15+min per game along side Tavares & Nylander. 29pts in 28gp in the AHL proves nothing - just ask pt/gm dman AHL lifer TJ Brennan.

Don't get me wrong, I think he gets there and soon... but I am not for gifting him anything. He should start 3rd line and outwork some superstars for Oct, Nov, Dec before getting a Nylander/Tavares sniff - my opinion.
