Leafs grant Hyman's agent to speak to other teams to investigate trading his rights.

    Andersen was not granted that.

Prolly more that Toronto is looking for something in these scenarios and Andersen won't get you any pick, and they are still trying to hard ball him into a contract now. And withholding other teams to give input on a deal driving up Andersen's price right now?

Just some thoughts as we move closer to the FA window.

The Leafs not being able to afford Zach Hymans next contract, but talking about trying to sign FA Landeskog is funny as hell and so Toronto media.

"Toronto can't afford Hyman so they are allowing him to talk to other teams to get something if he leaves"

"If Kerfoot is off the books, and Hyman, they can afford Landeskog" lol.

Ya it's Toronto media for sure, but I wouldn't be opposed to Landeskog lol.

Of course you wouldnt. Who would be?

Just another offseason of Toronto media blowing smoke, thinking every FA wants to come there and play.

Ya I like how it came out that Landeskog spends his summers in the GTA. It's like...he played for the Kitchener Rangers, his wife is from Toronto area and likes going to concerts which Toronto has all summer long usually. Being in the GTA for the summer is nothing.

I do find it odd they allowed Hyman but didn't allow Andersen. But they prolly already know what's happening, it's just a formal approval for Hyman.

Would Toronto sign Hyman to a deal, protect him, and then move him for more?

Protect 7/3/1 and expose Kerfoot, Dermott, Holl, Simmonds, Spezza, Hutch. Lose one of them (like always) and then trade Hyman for more value?

I think it would be a longshot, but maybe that's a reason behind the team allowing him to go out and talk to teams.

I think Leaf's still have a chance at signing Andersen. May even have a deal hashed out that will wait until after Expansion Draft.

I'm sure they're interested in Landeskog - but on the open market he's going to get $8m+ per season.
If you think the media bashes the Leafs for being top heavy at $40mfor 4 forwards
    Imagine $48 for 5 forwards.

This was something mentioned on tsn590 AM this morning speculating - I replied critical of the tweet.

The goalie market is pretty lucrative for teams to choose from.
It's likely Dubas has kicked tires with teams on trading Freddy's rights and garnered no interest.
So why grant something is unlikely to return anything

I imagine he has received several calls about Hyman's rights
If he can trade Hyman with an extension attached to the deal - odds are Dubas gets a 1st round pick, maybe a real good ELC player out of the deal.
    At worst, likely a 2nd or 3rd.

I would be aiming heavily for Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow if i were Dubas

My expectation is for the leafs to protect 8-1
    Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Tavares
    Rielly, Muzzin, Brodie, Holl
    Campbell

and for Seattle to take either Dermott or Kerfoot.

There are a lot of good platoon G's available at decent prices this summer - Bernier, Reimer to name two Leafs fans will get in a tizzy about.

Coleman has the speed to play in the top six.
He came out of the USHL as a top offensive talent - led the league with 92pts.

If the leafs lose Kerfoot ($3.5M)
With Spezza re-signed I can see the Leafs wanting to move him to a 3rd line role more often & re-sign Riley Nash for $1m
or giving Brooks, Hallinder long looks at camp

There's hope that Kirill Semyonov can fill 3rd line duties - at worst, 4th line
KHL signings has been a mixed back for the Leafs - jury is out.

    If they lose Dermott ($1.25M)
I think Bogosian is assured of being re-signed
or they target Jamie Oleksiak (my favourite depth D on the market)

They need to stay away from Yandle. Suter will be too expensive - too many teams interested

My wishlist: With the list, there's a lot of - if they sign A - they don't need to sign B based on current personnel

heavy top six forward for under $4m Coleman (just please)
heavy mid-six forward for under $3m - Want to say Goodrow, but I think he's an overpay by someone... so Armia - (this type)
depth D with top 4 upside for #3m or less Oleksiak (if you lose Dermott)
depth D that can play up line up with injuries for $1m - $2m Bogosian (lose Dermott, don't land Oleksiak)
veteran 3rd line C that can play with talented wingers for less than $3m Zajac, Bonino, Bozak, Haula (you sign any of these, you don't need 4th line as Spezza takes that role F/T
4th line C that can work PK & in-zone faceoffs - Glendening/Nash (if you don't sign 3rd line - you target one of these and look at Spezza as #3

I also see them going hard on Granlund for relatively cheap as well. Dubas tried last year, Granlund failed in NSH again... odds are he signs for under $3m this year.

This is exactly what I had for them in my expansion simulation and had Seattle taking Kerfoot.

They should protect Dermott over Holl. Seattle isn't going to take Holl when there's better value elsewhere.

There's a reason Holl spent the entire year over 20min/gm with Muzzin & Dermott was in and out of the line up.
    A real good reason.

    Holl >> Dermott

Holl looks good sitting with Muzzin, but take him away from Muzzin he drops. He's 30 and has hit full potential.
Dermott is younger and under utilized. Utilize him and even put him with Muzzin you get pretty much the same result. Cheaper cap hit.

Doubt Seattle will be as interested in a 30 year old D who's mediocre. I think risk is reduced of losing both by protecting Dermott over Holl.

As 2014OG says though, "overall picture of the Leafs change much if they lose Holl or Dermott."
