i wish they had capital to got after Hamilton but they dont...i dont think Hamilton takes 6 but if he did i would let MR go.....

I'm in this boat too. Depends what the Leafs would do if they moved Rielly.

Rielly team friendly > nothing
Rielly < Sandin + possible trade return
Rielly < Hamilton signing, trade return.

It's def something worth watching, but super curious what Rielly's number would be.

in a vacuum, signing dougie then trading rielly would be good asset management. however, is it really a good idea to add a 9m+ per season player when you already have AM, MM and JT making 10m+?

i actually think their top 2 lines and defense are just fine. its the 3rd/4th lines that need alot of help.

If it's a 1mill deal. Can't complain about that. If he's ineffective you can hide that pretty easily.

only way this works is if its 2 way deal...as they have money...but they need more energetic players for 3rd and 4th line

You can burry someone making 1mill on a 1way and gain a couple thousands. Not saying you'd completely lose the 1mill off your books, but you can hide a 1mill contract pretty easily.

Pass on Simmonds. Love the guy but he left it all in Philly. He is a shell of what he once was. He is always injured and seems out of place most times he’s out there. Only effective place is in front of the net on the PP, not sure you bring him back just for that. I’d rather give that spot to a younger guy that has some sand paper. Sorry Wayne.

Ya I would look elsewhere, and not make Simmonds my first offseason move. But if they see it as an easy signing, and won't effect their expansion draft I get it. But I would have thought he wouldn't be part of the Leafs future. He was rolling that 10 game stretch but broke his hand, maybe they know that was a big issue with his game.

I would look elsewhere and restart talks in like August.

he played ok in those 10 games i wont dispute but i think it was more luck than anything..it was not due to his skating and if you want to be successful all 4 lines have to skate these days....they already have 2 slow old(er) guys in Spezza and JT.

honestly i think he is more trouble then help if they sign him...if he signs they need to play him...at least a bit and i think game has passed him...just my opinion....

I agree. I wouldn't do it from being an outside view. I don't think they Leafs have really stumbled in FA market too (outside of Joe Thornton realistically) but even the "meh" signings have been low level price ranges. I just don't see this one being a smart choice. At a minimum he shouldn't be a first priority signing for this team if they want him.

Whatever though. If it's cheap, they can burry him if they want too. Could be help with having a set number of players exposed to the expansion draft too, I don't think they were quite at the minimum exposed yet either.

Exposure requirements are really small. Toronto is way over what they need to expose.
Actually... they aren't on defense if doing the 4/4, which this signing won't affect.
