Leaf's got unlucky with the pandemic. Cap plan was worked out with it going up in mind.
With 40m invested in 4 forwards alone - it makes it tough. In comparison Habs pay 40m for their entire forwards.

Andersen off the books is only going to make room for Hyman signing (if Seattle doesn't nab him).

I honestly think they need to shed one of those big contracts to spread the wealth out to make things work. Doesn't make sense to move AM or MM. Nylander has the lowest contract and performed the best of them all. That leaves Tavares, which would be a PR nightmare so don't see that happening.
I think all they can really do is regroup and try again next year with no major changes.
And then Campbell will see several mil pay raise next year.

Tavares is definitely un-tradeable. Seattle has just as much chance as any other team in the league of luring Hyman away. They can’t “nab” him - just sign like anyone else. They just have the opportunity to do so a little earlier than any other team. I would think he’d want to stay in Toronto if they offer a competitive contract. He doesn’t seem like the type of player GMs will really over pay for.

I forsee Seattle's weakest point is forwards. I'd say Hyman is the most attractive piece for them to get from the Leafs. Seattle will certainly have the cap space to outspend the Leafs. Leaf's also have to think about signing Campbell next season.
They don't have much flexibility $$$.
For things we don't know maybe Hyman will like new surroundings. Be apart of something new. Seeing what Vegas did their first year. They can 'nab' him by being more appealing and signing him.

I've been convinced Leaf's go 4/4. If not Hyman then who?

4/4 makes the most sense. They don't have the contracts to protect 7/3 as it stands anyway. I don't know what's going to happen with Hyman, rumours are coming out about him turning down an extension from the Leafs but that sort of nonsense is to be expected. I'd love to see him stay but he'll probably get a better offer from a team with plenty of appeal and I wouldn't hold it against him for taking it. He's gotta look out for Zach Hyman.

Some things that happened around the weekend:
"There will be a big name player that no one will see coming, going to the Maple Leafs this offseason" - Chris Johnston

"Trading Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly would fetch at least a first round pick and highly touted prospect" - Kevin McGran

Jim Matheson wonders if the Oilers have their eye on an older costly winger like Brandon Saad or Zach Hyman

"Zach Hyman could be one free agent target for the LA Kings, but a long term deal may scare them away" - John Hoven

Ben Kuzma wonders if the Vancouver Canucks could have trade interest in the Maple Leafs F Alex Kerfoot

This all could be VERY easy click bait for reporters looking for off-season Leaf fans clicks because Hyman, Rielly, and Kerfoot are all Leaf fan click baits.

Lol, got to love the media. Riling up the fans and really pushing things. A lot of wondering going on. Wonder when they will just shut the hell up.
