I agree unless you can get Murray for $3.5M. Then putting that $1.5M towards the current cap situation to bid for Pietrangelo, and I could be okay with moving Andersen.

Ya, the haul as a whole would have to make the team better.

They will likely downgrade in goal, but hopefully the downgrade in goal is less than the upgrade in (hopefully) defense.

Andersen's a great regular season workhorse goalie but he just doesn't step up in the playoffs at the biggest moments. I can live with them parting ways with him (assuming they bring in a half decent replacement).

Article in the Athletic today covers this angle pretty closely. In the end, they play out the scenario that Pietrangelo signs on the cheap end ($8.5M) and that leaves the Leafs only with ~$85k in cap space using ELCs and minor league type deals to fill out the bottom pair and bottom six. Basically to go this route, they also lose Johansson and Engvall on top of Andersen. And likely need to move Kerfoot as well.

I’d be surprised if Pietrangelo is going anywhere with StL making space by moving Allen. Maybe the Blues will part with Faulk for cheap.....

Problem is, even if he was available for cheap. At 6.5m for 6 more year's he's far from cheap.

Personally, I think if Demko has the net for next game/rest of series vs. Vegas and holds up well - Markstrom may have priced himself out of Vancouver this playoffs.

Markstrom possibly if he signs quickly. If he waits for a payday, he'll get burned.

Lehner - if he gets term which is what he really wants. - I think he'll take less money than Markstrom. CN Tower will look good on the other side of his neck.

Toronto's already paying 1.1m of his Vegas salary so we have that 'previous relationship' heh.

Chris Johnston on SN590: I think there's a good chance Freddy isn't playing in Toronto next season. Teams have interest and the Leafs are taking the calls. Even heard from Andersen's side that Freddy seems to be preparing as if he won't be back with Toronto.

Apparently Domi's days are numbered in MTL. Tough deal for rivals to make, but KD has to at least make that call and see if the stars could align.
Max is EXACTLY the kind of player the Leafs need.
