To be honest, he's still learning too. And still morphing his team. New GMs are more often putting their stamp on their team in Offseason #2 it seems.

Not saying he's never made a misstep, but he seemed to take the easy route last offseason (just sign the obvious), but maybe now this is the bold offseason? I'm interested because he seems to be very serious on what he's doing next. Saying they are not done, trading away a player he just signed, coming out and stating "we are in the market for another Muzzin".

Hey words are words until they're actions though.

Andersen, Johnsson, Kerfoot, and Engvall have all been dangled in trade talks by the Leafs apparently.

Andersen is a bit of a surprise, but I guess if we get back a roster piece and someone that can split the net with Campbell it could be a good move

Yeah it's likely a move that makes them better as a team over the 2yrs once Andersen's deal is done. Prolly a proactive move, rather than a move on from Andersen move.

The reason for the Andersen potential move:
    - Relatively low cap for a starter ($5mill)
    - Low salary ($1mill)
    - Still talented
    - Relatively low trade cost (apparently)
    - Leafs have confidence in Campbell and the other cheap options on the market.

Yeah, the Andersen deal makes some sense. If we get similar goaltending from say Campbell and Greiss, then spend the money on D and get something for Andersen before he's a free agent.

Maybe spending a 2nd rounder for Campbell last wasn't such a bad idea for me now! hmmmm

If Andersen gets moved... I wouldn't be surprised to see Dubas go back to the well and trade for Matt Murray.

This would be interesting. Do you think Murray will sign for less than 5M? Or do you like the idea of a longer term with Murray?

And I wonder what the price would be to get an RFA goalie like Murray?

Murray is definitely signing for less than 5M. I think it's similar to his price tag right now. He hasn't done anything in the regular season to earn more, and that's where the money is made.

Reported Carolina is interested in Andersen, but Toronto wants to have a replacement lined up before they move him.

I'm not so sure the grass is any greener on the other side . I'd rather have Andersen than Holtby/Murray for example

I agree unless you can get Murray for $3.5M. Then putting that $1.5M towards the current cap situation to bid for Pietrangelo, and I could be okay with moving Andersen.
