Regardless, too small a sample to read much into it, and they were good against Anaheim. Also, it's very comforting to know that even if Auston gets shut down, this is a deep enough team that they should be able to score anyway.
This is what will end up making him an elite player in the NHL... in a playoff series he'll begin to make in-game adjustments himself to find time and space. Maybe not fully this playoffs.. but I have no doubt, he'll figure this out.

Kasperi Kapanen. Give this kid some linemates PLEEEEEEAZE!!!!!
His skill and speed are so refreshing. Makes chances despite his linemates.
I know it would be tough to crack top 6 but JVR & Bozak maybe? Worst case scenario his trade value has to be increasing.

He drives the mis-match tho on the 4th line. I get why he's on it because he puts a ton of pressure on the other teams 4th line.

    Per the CBA:

“Conditioning Loan” means the Loan of a Player on a Club's Active Roster, for
conditioning reasons, in accordance with the terms of Section 13.8 of this Agreement.

    Section 13.8:
    Conditioning Loan.
Unless a Player consents, he shall not be Loaned on a Conditioning
Loan to a minor league club. Such Conditioning Loan shall not extend for more than fourteen
    (14) consecutive days. The Commissioner may take whatever steps he deems necessary to
investigate the circumstances under which a Player is Loaned on a Conditioning Loan. If the
Commissioner has reason to believe or determines that the Club has used the Conditioning Loan to evade Waivers, or otherwise Circumvent any provision of this Agreement, he may take such disciplinary action against the Club, as he deems appropriate.
The Player shall continue, during the period of such Conditioning Loan, to receive the same Paragraph 1 NHL Salary, and be entitled to the same benefits, that he would have received had he continued to play with the Club.

    Section 13.9
Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception Conditioning Loan.
A Player who is on the Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception as set forth in Article 50 may, with his consent, during the term of such Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception (but in no event during the first fourteen (14) calendar days and six (6) NHL Games), be Loaned on a Conditioning Loan (the "Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception Conditioning Loan") for a period not to exceed up to the longer of six (6) days and three (3) games, solely for the purpose of determining whether the Player is fit to play. If the Club determines that it needs more time to 75 ARTICLE 13 13.10-13.12 assess the Player's fitness to play, the Club may file a written request with the Commissioner's Office, with a copy to the NHLPA, in accordance with Exhibit 3 hereof, to extend the Loan for an additional two (2) games. The Commissioner, upon good cause, may approve the one-time extension. The Commissioner's approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. A Player on a
Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception Conditioning Loan will continue to be listed on Injured Reserve and will not count against the Club's 23-man roster limit. The Club's Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception will continue until the Conditioning Loan ends, and his Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and Bonuses will continue to count against the Club's Upper Limit and the Players' Share during such time. The Commissioner may take whatever steps he deems necessary to investigate the circumstances under which a Player is placed on a Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Conditioning Loan. If he has reason to believe or determines that the Club has used the Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Conditioning Loan to evade Waivers or otherwise to Circumvent any provision of this Agreement, he may take other disciplinary action against the Club as he deems appropriate. A Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Conditioning Loan may be extended on one occasion. This procedure can only be used once during each period of time that the Player is on a Bona Fide Long-Term Injury Exception.

I was just going to come on and say the same thing.... is this not circumvention? It has to be somewhere along the lines...

He's played something like five AHL games before his recall. Clearly he is fit to play.

Leivo and Soshnikov are like boys who are promised by pretty girls they'll put out if they just do them a few favors and then wait a few weeks while they definitely break up with their current boyfriends. I would seriously start questioning their intelligence.

"We don't want to lose you but we also don't want you to play for us, so can you just play along and wait a few more years just in case maybe someone gets injured and we still wouldn't play you but we like having you around."

Or do they have kid doctors for the Marlies and real doctors for the Leafs ?

Having said that, I don't see this as a very big deal at all. This is just Lou being Lou - he's buying time while he evaluates his options. At some point, he won't be able to kick the can down the road any longer and must do something. And we're talking several days here (of circumvention), not weeks or months. Bettman probably called him this morning and gave him finger wags over the phone.
    This will get resolved, chill.

Several days? LOL!! The Leafs shouldn't be allowed to leave him on the IR at all while they make any decisions. He's clearly healthy enough to play and the Leafs have known well in advance that this was coming.

If this was any other team, other than the Leafs, you'd be agreeing with me.

Sosh had a concussion didn't he? Symptoms return. It's all in the CBA so I don't see how this is an issue. It's legal and teams have done this all the time, not just the Leafs. It's just news because it's the Leafs and the trade deadline is approaching.

Earlier this season, both Zach Parise #Wild, & Micro Mueller #Devils, were placed on Injured Reserve, then sent to the AHL on an LTI Conditioning Loan, & when recalled placed back on IR.

Parise for an additional 4 days post conditioning stint, & Mueller for 8 days.
I agree, both of those occasions were wrong too, but safe to say there wasn't trade rumours/waiver issues with either of those guys. They weren't buying time to trade either guy. We knew they were headed back to their respective teams to be regular players. That is not the case with Soshnikov. The Leafs don't have a spot for him on their main team and are avoiding waivers with him because they don't expect him to pass.

every team has done this at one time or another... there's always players being sent down for conditioning stints after LTIR for 2-4 games. Hell... teams have even done it with players that were healthy but haven't played a single game however long it's required. They can get 2-4 games in the AHL for 'conditioning' purposes as well. it's a non-story, it's not circumvention of anything. It's not a loophole. He's been out how long?
