So maybe I am confused (it's early after all), but I thought you could only place a max of three people on your LTIR at any given time. The Leafs, as per capfriendly, currently have four.

Vegas had 4 when they had Weber I believe (Stone, Lehner, Weber, Patrick). Canucks have 4 (Mikheyev, Ferland, Pearson, Poolman).
It is interesting that 3-4 seems to be the max amount. Could be just how life is and luck. 23 max players, you'd have to be in serious bad luck to have over 25% of your roster out 3+ weeks at the same time?

Toronto has traded 13 pieces out (7 picks, 6 players) to receive 11 pieces (4 picks, 7 players) this "deadline".
The biggest question though we should be asking is, does McCabe give up #2 (already took it) to Luke Schenn? Leafs site lists him as #22 though.

I don't think the Leafs are done.
At least one D needs to move (Holl?) and acquiring an AHL goalie that's spent time in the NHL to give an extra layer of support (Murray) seems like logical next steps.

I wouldn't say these moves give me any more or less confidence against Tampa this year than it did last year. Last year I think was a coin flip and this will be the same. I believe the problem is timely scoring and that to me is only marginally improved if at all with the addition of ROR.
I have more confidence in Samsonov or even Murray than I did with Campbell but do they have the ability to steal games like Vasilevsky can? Possibly but I wouldn't count on it. I think this year will be decided as it was last year, with Vasilevsky deciding whether or not this team advances.

You look at last year vs. this year and they're exponentially deeper at forward.
Liljegren has taken a huge step forward this year & Schenn is a large improvement over Lyubushkin

ROR is already gelling with Tavares. Most of the F changes affect the bottom lines.
Energy guys seem to gel faster than skill players . TB has twice added multiple pieces to their 2nd line, 2nd PP to no ill affect.
The D pairs have flip-flopped all season due to lack of cohesive pairing.
I really don't think this will have much, if any negative affect on the roster.
I do think they are much better positioned to beat TB.
If Kampf starts getting steamrolled by Paul's line... ROR could really swing that matchup.
The ability to slot ROR as 3rd line C - Acciari can move to wing - allows Kampf to play 4th line C - gives them a lot of matchup flexibility that did not exist last year.

I think this team (on paper) is a better team than TB. They have the talent and depth up front and on the blue line. But your best players have to be just that. Matthews has to turn it up a gear, Marner has to be solid and no stupid plays. Nylander has to continue his play and both ROR and JT have to lead.
TB has the best goalie in the league and that’s a huge advantage. I am not comfortable with what the Leafs have in net. If anyone thinks they know how Samsonov is going to play in the playoffs, they are fooling themselves. If he plays like he has been (regular season) then I have faith they will do it. But he could also lay a six pack of eggs and Leafs will be left scrambling. They have matched the firepower and grit in front of their goalie but can that goalie negate TB? All I know is that Vas has been there done that. That’s where TB has the advantage… for now.
Call me old one more time.

Same questions were asked about Vasilevsky after losing to Columbus in 4 straight.
There will always be questions until there is winning.

On paper, Toronto matches up with all the good teams with the goalie being the only exception.
As mentioned, the stars have to play to their abilities. If they can't do what they do best in the playoffs, they can find themselves scratching their heads again and probably looking for a new Coach and GM.
It's going to be interesting.

The point moreso is, no goalie can carry an argument they can win the cup until they do it. We can look at Kuemper last year, Crawford in Chi his first year. There's tons of examples of unproven goalies needing to prove themselves or just goalies that haven't proven themselves come playoffs this year alone.
Vanecek, Georgiev, Samsonov, Campbell/Skinner, Thompson/Hill, Copley/Korpisalo,
Why no one is questioning Freddy Andersen's ability to win three rounds is beyond me, couldn't do it in Toronto. has yet to do it in Carolina.
The list is pretty endless.
Leafs are 2nd behind only Boston in high danger goals again, high danger svpct,
8th in team svpct.
the concern isn't Samsonov, it's the what-if he gets hurt. We went through this yesterday. New Jersey & Tampa has similar if not larger concerns in net if their #1 gets hurt.
With a .918, 2.30 I'm not sure you can ask much more of Samsonov during the season & he can't do anything about the playoffs until he gets there.
Several playoff teams have larger net concerns than the Leafs do.
