    Default Hemsky for option A, B or C ?

    Hi,

I'm in a 16 teams dynasty league where we draft players from the real draft every year. I asked for Hemsky and here is the options the other GM gave me :

I will give you approx. the overall meaning of each round pick...

    A) Hemsky + 3rd round 2011 (42th) for Van Riemsdyk

    B) Hemsky + 4th round 2011 (58th) for Niederreiter OR Schwartz

    C) Hemsky for 1st 2013 (14th) + 2nd 2012 (33th) + 2nd 2011 (24th)

I always liked Hemsky, maybe I'm overrating him ? Do you think I should try to get him with one of the offers ??? If so, wich one ? What's your thought about short term vs long term ? I still think Hemsky can hit the 90 pts mark with another team... he's only 27 yo.

    Thanks !

Hard to say much without knowing your team and scoring setup.

My gut reaction is that those are decent deals. I like the JVR one least (but it depends on your team too).

The other two are quality for potential. Always a decent gamble.

Hemsky's always hurt, but the picks and prospects haven't plaed yet.

Depending on what your squad, categories, etc. looks like, I'd think the Hemsky/Schwartz deal is a decent one.

I added my team in my signature... I had to cut some juniors... not enough space, hehe!

Note that I would like to help my team a bit this year but I don't want to sacrifice anything major if Hemsky can't give me a lot for the next 5 years at least...

Maybe I should back off ?

I don't know why I like Hemsky, especially if he gets traded : He reached 80 pts with Horcoff as a center all his carrer.

I'd do Hemsky + 4th for Schwartz, the others seem a bit steep

    I'd still do Hemsky/Schwartz.

Although, where are you at right now? Is this year a legit possibility? If not, I'd market some others and do a bit of a depth movement. Get value from Lidstrom, Gagne, Brodeur, Thomas, and Bergeron now and work on the farm system in hopes of building around Stamkos, Tavares, Stepan, Subban, Skinner, etc.

Of those deals, I would do the Hemsky for Schwartz.

It depends on how you view your team, but I think that both JVR by 2013 (maybe even next year) and El Nino by 2013 or 2014, will have better numbers than Hemsky.
Plus Hemsky's injury history is troublesome.

    Thank you guys,

I'm 4th in my league right now with no chance of winning this year. But my league is divided in 4 divisions and the winner of each of those divisions will be awarded a late 1st round pick (17th to 20th). I'm in a fight right now to win my division so that's why I want to think both short and long term...

The duckshockey answer is what I want to know... if you think JVR will put better number than Hemsky next year and El Nino will do the same by 2013-14, I don't want to make that trade.

I'm not sure how far Schwartz is from El Nino... have you read Metaldude26 article on Schwartz a couple months ago ?

I was seeing Hemsky as a buy low right now who will put 80 to 90 pts per season for the next 5-6 years vs a guy that can put 90 but can also be a lower caliber player in the league... a gamble.

I would trade him for the draft picks, you have plenty of young players and prospects so I think you can spare them. I think any time you can aquire a 70 point player with 90+ point upside without giving up any top prospects you have to do it.

I'm a huge fan of Schwartz, but damn if that Hemsky+4th rounder for Schwartz deal doesn't seem like a steal. I'll take proven (even injury prone) over potential every day of the week. You'd love Schwartz to develop into a Hemsky calibre player but that's years away. Take that deal and run with it. This is exactly why drafting well pays off so big because if you can identify good young talent it makes it so much easier for you to make moves and stack up proven talent.

It's a shame to move Schwartz but you can't pass this up.

I'm really 50-50 between trading Schwartz or trading the picks... I don't know if you noticed, but the 1st rd he wants is for 2013 and it will be no better than 10th overall. I expect 14-15th overall... A player draft at that point in a fantasy draft usually won't help you before 2-3 years... so that put me in season 2015-2016 at best !

Anything can happen to that pick though. Don't pull a Burke and move your picks too far into the future.
