I hope Malkin is out for the season. I hope he has surgery to repair and strengthen the MCL/ACL issues. When he comes back, he may be a step behind for a little bit, or hesitant to chage direction fast. I think this in jury is much more hurtful to a running back, like booby miles.
All this talk about him not being as successful is a little premature. I would rather him take significant time off and come back strong. He is playing at a point per game pace or a little less injured. Fully recovered and through conditioning and physically therapy, he could be 100+ again imo.
If Malkin was over 30 I would be more concerned. Peoples just don't be healin as well over 30.

Ready for training camp, thats better than I expected.Malkin’s rehabilitation period will take six months, and he will be ready for the start of training camp in Sept, GM Ray Shero said.
I am so glad he is having surgery! He will be gold next year and everyone that traded him or dropped him will regret it. Mark this thread.

Pittsburgh management told us in February that Malkin will have a 6 months rehab.
As per this link, 6 months is a minimum, but he should wait 7 to 9 months. Maybe we will see him just in 2012 ???

I doubt it. You'll see him in October most likely. He's already off crutches.
I really hope your right. I got him for my Pat Kane last january, and I tought that time that I hitted a home run. Now, that trade will make me lost the season in my limit keeper league.
