Default Crosby for Malkin and Varlamov?

    Hey,

Just got an offer that's pretty tough to refuse: Crosby for Malkin and Varlamov. That said, if Malkin is finally 100% healthy, he could be set for a tear, and who knows when Crosby is going to be 100% again. I'm going to move Varlamov soon, so it's either I move Varlamov and Neuvirth as a package and pick up a solid D-man in exchange, or go ahead and snag Crosby (however, costing me Malkin).

    Thoughts?

I would do this deal. It's nice to have the handcuff on Washington's goalies, but it's such a dicey situation. I'd way rather have Crosby than Malkin, as he shows up every single game, and both seem to have similar injury history (miss a few games each year).

I think this is a pretty solid deal for you as you still have Neuvirth. Can you pick up Holtby to replace Varlamov?

    Thanks for the reply.

That was my initial reaction, especially being a life-long Pens fan and already turning down the oppurtunity to take Sid 1st overall in our draft, however I'm tired of having both Washington goalies, and after picking up Roloson and Brodeur off the waiver wire in the last month, I'm confident I don't need either of them. I really don't think I'd get much for Neuvirth without Varlamov in the package, as it looks like Varlamov is gonna be the guy down the stretch (barring injury). So now I'm thinking it would be smarter to trade for Letang or Mike Green (or a D man of the calibre)...when I look at the trade that way (i.e. Letang and Malkin for Crosby) it seems like I'm safer sticking with Malkin, especially since Malkin is apparently over his nagging knee injury and Crosby is still only doing light workouts with his head injury.

Keep the opinions coming if you got them....I'm really interested in this offer! I'm also kind of worried that if I deny the opportunity to get Sid twice in one season that lightning might strike me down in the middle of the street or something lol.

    Cheers!

I would've already pulled the trigger on that deal. Anytime you can aquire Crosby it should be a done deal!
Instead of worrying about that headache known as WSH goalies, trade both and get something more in return. Holtby pickup is a great idea though. I just say, avoid the hassle if you wanted to.

Good deal... I'd just be careful with Crosby, who knows how much longer he will be out and what kind of player he''ll be when he returns.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly (re: Crosby's health/return date). It's such a tough call whether Malkin and/or Crosby is going to play in top condition when they come back. Afterall, we know Malkin hasn't been 100% all year, and when he is, he has the capability to be almost as good as Crosby. Assuming this time off has him at 100%, and Crosby is human and is going to need a fair amount of time yet to fully recover from his head injury, I don't know if this is such a smart move to make. Also, seeing as I should be able to get a top d-man for Varlamov and Neuvirth, it seems as though the safest bet would be to get a Green, Letang, Doughty etc. and hold onto Malkin, seeing as Neuvirth's trade value is virtually nothing right now without Varlamov included in a deal. Which leads me to another question if anyone cares to respond: who would you try and get for Neuvirth and Varlamov....Green, Letang, or Doughty?

    Cheers

Great point, but Malkin is no different than Crosby, which makes this deal a no-brainer, IMO.

One guy's been out 10+ games with a concussion and no signs of returning anytime soon and the other has missed 5 games with a nagging knee injury that he's dealt with all season and a sinus infection... I'd say it's pretty different

Not saying its a bad deal, I'd probably do it myself, just saying a lot of people act as though Crosby will be back any day now and will just pick it up full speed where he left off, which is unrealistic.

Well it took 1 game for Malkin to get re-injured, glad I accepted ha....if anyone ever offers you 2 Russians for the best Canadian hockey player in the world.....no need to think twice, just take it haha.
