Someone should tell Friedman how big of a following he has on this site and ask him if he can post it up here when he finishes it every week lol.

    thanks for posting !!

music to my ears : "18) The Red Wings like to be patient with their prospects, but it's going to be very hard for them not to rush Brendan Smith. He's 22 and ready after one year in Grand Rapids."

    3) Another thing I'm learning from my twitter feed: there is not an NHL city that hates its team ownership more than Atlanta. Think both Gary Bettman and David Stern agree with those fans, too. It would be nice if a little bit of that $170 US million franchise/relocation fee (assuming a sale to Winnipeg, of course) went to making sure those who lose their jobs receive a decent package/benefits.

    SOOOOO TRUE.

The ownership doesn't know a single lick about hockey. I'm not even sure there exists a single drop of northern hockey blood in any of their veins. I've watched them interviewed, read their quotes, see their body language in their fancy boxes at the games. No clue.

I also like note #4 about Mike Richards' leadership.
Richards is my favourite NHL player (since Keith Tkachuk retired).

Tough job though - of the young kid captains around the league, he's easily the least skilled. Crosby is way above him and has his Cup. Toews is way above him and has his Cup.

I watch him so closely and he seems to have a fantastic hockey sense on the ice. But everybody critiques the captain after the team is eliminated. It is good to see that some other NHL coach really admires his efforts.

I don't think the criticism of MRichards as captain has anything to do with his hockey sense, skill, or effort, but more how he deals with the media as captain.

Exactly. However, I dont believe any GM/Coach considers it a priority that his captain is good with the media.

I bet every single GM believes that how a player handles the media matters. Not the most important issue, but it definitely is worth considering.

If a player takes things personally, it affects their play, and the trickle down may begin.
