Default Better D-Men than Doughty, in a Keeper

Doughty just turned 21 in December.

He had 59 points last season. He then had 7 points in 6 playoff games.

He had a brutal start to this season, but has 19 points in his last 23 games, which would be a 67.7 point pace.

The Kings are one of the hottest up-and-coming teams in hockey.

Yet, after overpaying for Doughty in the offseason, I've watched him tumble to 9th in Dobber's defensemen rankings, behind Byfuglien, Green, Letang, Keith, Lidstrom, Enstrom, Boyle and Karlsson.

My question: Which defensemen, if any, would be better to own than Doughty, in a keeper league?

The only one who comes to mind is Mike Green, but I'm curious whether some folks (besides Dobber) would rank others above DD....

I'd take Doughty over anyone but Green in a keeper.

No one. If I could have one young D-Man to build my fantasy franchise around it would be Doughty.

I would only take Byfuglien & Green over Doughty.

I have Green, Doughty and Yandle on my team. Right now I would rank them in that order. I have Green at the top based on what he has done and the scoring prowess Washington has shown. If they continue to play the way they have recently, or the style of play they have recently I'm going to have to bump Green down.

After Green though, Doughty and Yandle are just about neck and neck, with Doughty getting the slight bump because of the team he's on. Both are amazing to own though.

    Just my opinion

As expected the hype surrounding the hot starters like Big Buff have died down. I am very comfortable with my rankings above for keepers. I like Dought and Letang pretty much the same.

No love for Letang on your lists? He is putting up great points and has some pretty great peripheral stats as well.

I think Buf had a hot start to the season and doesn't rank with the rest. I'd attribute a portion of his pace to playing with Enstrom, who is extremely solid.

I don't think Letang will sustain in future years as Goligoski will get more time.

Green will be back on pace when the Capitals sort themselves out, with the addition of Karlsson.

    My ranking is very similar:

    Green
    Doughty
    Yandle
    Enstrom
    Karlsson

Karlsson has shown tremendous ability even this year playing with an awful Ottawa team. He'll only continue to improve as the Sens get better.

(I'm lucky enough to own the middle three, so some bias)

Doughty and Letang are both top 3 D in my list. Doughty is a better D, but I would pick Letang before because he plays with Crosby/Malkin.

This is exactly how I have the top 5.

As an aside, I don't completely understand all of the talk about Goligoski taking away from Letang, or actually leapfrogging him. Goli has an awesome shot, but is not as good an offensive... or defensive... talent as Letang. Plus, he's two years older AND behind in development compared to Letang.
