    A Stanley cup victory may confirm that this was the right approach.

    A playoff exit neither supports either side. That's the part that scares me. If they exit out of the playoffs, I'm not going to purport that they were wrong all along. It's because anything can happen in a 7 game series. However, they may continue with this strategy the next year as well and that would bug the shit out of me.

    Hockey 101 - if you can't score and you can't stop the other team from scoring you don't win anything.
    You never want to be coming from behind regular season or playoffs. It's a recipe for failure. Let them score in the 1st and then implement the defensive system. It shouldn't be hard to come up with this since this is how the other teams are beating them.

    We come out of the break and the Caps go 1 for 4 and the Thrashers & Canes go 4 and 1 we'll see how commited to this system they are.
    Limited Keeper - Keep 5
    Auction draft with a budget of $600. Whatever is left becomes your acquisition budget for the season. At the end of the season 50% of your budget is carried over to the next year.
    Keeper players are taxed +$10 for forwards with over 75 pts. +$5 for forwards under 74pts. +$0 for forwards under 50pts.
    D = +$10 for 65pts +$5 for under 64pts +$0 under 40
    G = +$10 for 32W +$5 for under 31W & +$0 under 15W

    (G) (A) 25, (+/-) 5, (PIM) 3, (PPG) 7.5, (PPA) 5, (SHG) 10, (SHA) 7.5
    (SOG) 1 (W) 50, (L) -20, (GA) -5, (SV) 2, (SHO) 50

    With that said, if you rely on offense alone, and then it dries out in the playoffs you're in a similar boat...

    The problem is if you unleash them until they get the first goal, it becomes that conflict of ideology right? I mean it's not as easy as flicking a switch to say ok, we're going all out to get the first goal then go into our defensive scheme... Hockey is a 60 min game and isn't as easy as just changing a whole scheme on the fly just like that.

    I dunno the best analogy I can think of is like going to the casino. Say you started off hot winning $100 bucks in the first few hands of blackjack, would you say hmmmm I should start playing defensive now? or would you go naw I'm taking the Casino for all it's worth tonight... Chances are option 2 is going to happen, then things turn around and boom you're SOL... or my teacher analogy, I don't ever go into a school year with my class and start off easy on them, cause i'll lose them right away and then I'm fighting all year to get them back. I start them off harsh so they know their boundaries and expectations then gradually loosen them.

    So I mean if you're up 1-0 then switch to a defensive scheme, and end up losing the game, how many fans will bitch that you changed the system when it was working... look at all the complaints now about how they've changed a system that wasn't working... just another thought...

    On the flip side, if the Caps came out and went 4-1, would you be 100% in full support of their system?
