Initially, I don't think Nabby has much of an impact on Howard. Nabby is getting up there in age and, as far as I know, hasn't played hockey in a month and a half so there's bound to be some rust to shake off. If Howard can take advantage of that and step his game up over the next couple weeks, I think Nabby's future (rest of the season) impact on him won't be significant.

Note: these are thoughts from a person heavily invested in Howard

part of me really hopes this backfires on holland, detroit bows out in the first round and howard walks at seasons end.

but i am probably speaking more as a howard owner at this point and basing this solely on nabby stealing howards job

The more I read about this, the more I don't think he'll make it to Detroit at all. Too many teams need his services and it sounds like he just wants to play as a starter to prove himself for next season.

Holland announced not a week ago that he was happy waiting for Osgood to return.

The contract he signed makes him affordable to almost every team in the league.

Too many teams need help in net and who couldn't use a cheap back up with Nabby's experience?

when can other teams begin trying to sign him off waivers?

We'll know who won the waiver race by noon tomorrow.

I agree. I can think of at least 6 or 7 teams that could use a veteran back-up/1B goalie like Nabokov right now.

Man, Washington grabbing him would be awesome.

I traded Varlamov last year, and Neuvirth this year to the same guy. Then to get the Washington co-starter? That would be so deadly. And such a kick in the teeth for the other guy.

Well, based on net sources, looks like Caps and Devils are pulling themselves out of the nabbing Nabby off waivers race.
    Isles may be in play.

    Sources:

    Devils - http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2011/1/2...-jersey-devils
Caps - Katie Carrera twitter page states that Caps will not stake claims for Nabokov, she is told
NYI - Katie Strang (NYI) tweets that according to her sources, Isles have discussed staking a claim for Nabokov

    Gets interesting by the minute!

well if nabby really wants to be a starter then bryan murray would be a fool not to make a claim.

i cant imagine unseating elliot or mike brodeur would be tough slog.

I heard something along the lines of they are gonna make a deal with the Isles or someone with high priority to claim him for them...then trade a pick or some shit to the Isles for Nabakov...my younger brother was spewing this to me yesterday...not the most ridiculous thing I've heard but we'll see

You've gotta love people panic trading Howard. I'm gonna go ahead and predict Nabokov won't impact Howard's value. And if Osgood really is done for good, Howard's only going to get more valuable.

because nabokov is over 35 and was a waiver claim he cant be traded without first clearing waivers again and detroit would have 30th overall pick in those claims.

their is simply no way the isles can trade nabokov on trade deadline day without some other team picking him up for free(as free is always better then something)
