I think that's exactly the point of the topless, hairy men avatars... to make the annoying whiners who complained about women avatars just as uncomfortable as before... but not only that... but to hopefully make them feel sheepish for being so ridiculous (in my opinion) in the first place.

not that I care much either way...but I just want to point out the obvious flaw to this statement. The main difference between the half naked male and female avatars is that the female avatars can be construed as sexist and disrespectful to women. I am not a feminist, nor am I even female, but for years women have been portrayed as nothing more than sex objects and a website that wants to come across as respectful to women, and perhaps even attract the odd female site member, might be better off without these sexist avatars.

As much as I find the male avatars disturbing, I don't find them disrespectful.

I find it hilarious that the people who keep bitching about this thread and lamenting the notion of 'why can't we just talk about hockey' are the same ones who come back to read it everyday and post about how much they hate it. Do you not appreciate the disconnect there? lol

If you don't wanna read it then don't, no one is forcing you to, there are hundreds of other hockey related threads you could focus your energies on. For whatever reason people want to keep this one going and I think that's fine, especially as we're still getting a trickle of people who haven't weighed in yet commenting

This isn't really about freedom of expression etc. It's about understanding the bottom line for Dobber as a business. This isn't "Oooh I am offended by those women.", this is "I can no longer touch this website with a ten foot pole on my lunch break at work BECAUSE of those pictures."

Whether I agree or disagree with those pictures at all is actually pretty much irellevant here. Because coworkers or either sex - who WILL be offended (whether that irks you or not) by many of those pictures - will be sitting in the lunch room watching over our shoulders - it simply became impossible to come here any more during work hours. I am posting now at home.

So bitch, moan, and complain, all you want about prudeness, other cultures, and the like, but good luck changing the culture in the countries where the bulk of the people accessing this site are viewing it from. It's just not happening.

So the only option is to be stubborn and stage some sort of protest that will achieve nothing at all, or to act like bloody adults and give it a rest.

I am certain that option 2 isn't going to happen though, so I'll have to be happy with coming here far less and just leave it at that. If I'm the only one - awesome! I actually hope that's true. I do wonder how many others are having to do the same thing though and ultimately hurting the bottom line of what is trying to be accomplished here.

With all due respect dude you're kinda talkin outta your ass on this one for several reasons:

1)as has been pointed out ad nauseum, just because you work at a prudsh company doesn't mean the rest of the world does.
2)you can TURN THE AVATARS OFF COMPLETELY. So if they offend you or your colleagues at work then turn em off. You can always turn em on again while at home to see what you're missing.
3)regardless of what side of the argument you fall on the message got conveyed and 98% of the racy avatars have been replaced. Dobber is not going to lose his shirt and life will go on
4)believe it or not, everyone doesn't agree with you or with one another on this issue. Its a forum tho, that's where discussion is supposed to occurr
5)those who would trade freedom for safety deserve neither
