    Default What is EJ worth?

I am in a 12 team. 15 player keeper league and people are asking about EJ.

    League starts 3C, 4D, 7W, 1G
G, A, PTS, PPP, SHP , +/-, GWG, PIM, Shots are skating categories

I am tempted to trade EJ as I think he is better in real life than fantasy.

It would leave me at D with: Yandle, White, Gilbert, Carlsson, Campbell and something (if anything) I get back in trade.

One team has Parise and I am thinking of offering him EJ and a winger for him

So the questions boil down to:
    1) What do you think of EJ?
    2) What is fair value for him?
    3) Is Parise worth pursuing for EJ plus Bergfors or Raymond

EJ's upside is 45 to 55 pts with solid roto stats. That's the expected return I would want for EJ. I compare him to a Shea Weber.

I hope for the sake of all those who have invested in him that I am wrong- but I am not sold on him being the stud offensive D that some think he will be. I am sorry but I have seen nothing to make me believe that is the case. He is a very good defenseman but that does not pay in fantasy. I do not want anyone to be doing anything based on what I say, but just giving my 2 cents. He is not even owned in either of my leagues, and all 10 guys in each league know a lot about hockey.

These are his numbers from a year ago.

    10 g, 29 a, 39 p, 79 pim, 15 ppp, 186 sog

For a D man in his "3rd" year, that's pretty damn good. I say "3rd" because he lost his entire 2nd year to a knee injury. So to come off an entire year away from pro hockey and put up those numbers, I would say is pretty special.

Weber is a good comparison, my only question with him is will he see the PP time with Pietrangelo rising up?

I would expect at least those numbers coming back at me. Remember that D men take a little longer to develop, but this lad is going to be gold.

My worry is that like the forwards he has too much competition to put up good pp points. I am in 7th and have a fairly young team (with the exception of thornton and m hossa)...would you move ej and bergfors or raymond for parise?

Definitely a decent third year, I am just not convinced about the 50+ point comments. Like I said, I hope I am wrong, both because it would be a great thing for USA hockey to have him get to that level, and it would be good for all those out there that have invested in him. I just think that people should probably be tempering their expectations a bit more than they are, but who knows.

i got Markov for him before Markov's injury.....EJ is 4th on the PP QB list on STL behind Steen,Pietro,Colo, his numbers will not reach 40 with those 3 in front of him for PP time, IMO

If I could get Parise for any combination of those three (or all 3 together) I would not even think twice.

No he's not........he's second, behind only Carlo in PP TOI/G.

He's averaging over 3 minutes in PP time per night.

If you can get parise for him, jump all over that.

EJ is St Louis' 1st overall draft pick. They are going to give him lots of time to develop into a premier player. It could take a year or two more. Steen, Coli, are not ppl to worry about. Alex is, but still EJ is coming out of the doors a little slow this year. He'll pick it up and most likely end with what he had last year, and move up from there to a ceiling of 55pts I would say.
