Here's the thing. If you're Holland and this is almost certainly your last year, do you care about doing right by the agent? Certainly you care about the player for human reasons, but there's less pressure. The flip side, is that Holland not being the guy next year is also part of why he was willing to do the Brown deal with the bonus going to next year in the first place. This is where the owner needs to step in and say that Holland has to eat the reputation hit and not allow that Brown bonus to come due.

I also wonder if there's not a chance of a conditioning stint in the AHL for Brown before we reach the point of no return.

Counterpoint, if you're Holland it's more beneficial to you personally for Brown to work out. Now do I think he will? No. But Axe correctly pointed out (maybe in the Connor Brown thread) that 9 games isn't very much to find your game after being off for a year. Since Holland doesn't have to deal with it next year, could make the argument that it is most beneficial to him and his potential legacy to force the coaching staff to keep playing him in hopes he finds his game.

The other thing to consider is Brown and McDavid are best buds. Do you care about keeping favor with the agent? No. Do you worry you'll piss off your star just a little bit more by screwing his buddy? I mean you have to at least consider it could happen.

For Holland and his legacy what matters most here is finding a winning solution. That likely ends with Brown playing more than 10 games, finding himself and producing, because extricating himself from this contract may prove too difficult. But if he finds a way out and has a replacement option for Brown then I don't think he'd have any qualms about blocking Brown's path to game 10.

It's a good point about finding his game and needing more time. Holland always talks about using time whenever he has it. He is running out, hence the Campbell waiver. It's why I wondered about a conditioning stint if it's available. Would buy everyone here time.

The standard conditioning loan rules are:
    - The standard form of the loan last for 14 consecutive days max.
    - His salary is paid as if he's in the NHL, and the player counts against the salary cap and 23-man roster limit.
    - The Commissioner has the right to investigate the loan.
    - The player must consent to the loan.

    The LTIR Conditioning Loan:
    - The player remains on LTIR and follows all those rules, and gets paid as if he's in the NHL
    - The conditioning stint lasts for 6 days and 3 games (max triggers the end of the loan).
    - The loan is to determine the players fitness to come off LTIR.
    - Teams can ask for a 2 game extension if the player isn't ready.
    - Commissioner can investigate it.
    - Player needs to consent to the loan.

Outside of actually scoring, what more are people expecting from Connor Brown? He's among the team leaders in expected goals for, corsi % and all the other measures of good play. This is while coming off a full year of not playing in a game.

It's not even fun at this point.

Campbell also lost with the Condors 4-1 last night. Condors were up 1-0 and gave up 4 straight on 20 shots. Fans in the stands even brought signs to chirp Campbell.

Jay Woodcroft appears to say to Dave Mason "that might be it" and Mason responding "yup".

I don't know if that's what Woodcroft says, but if that is what he's saying....oh boy.

Higher chance they overspend to bring people in than send guys out right now. I'll change my tune come June 2024 though for Draisaitl.

This start is just so baffling.
Connor Brown in is the only real roster adjustment and yet the team went from below average D to can't do anything.
More surprisingly they completely forgot how to score.

Woodcroft has to get fired today, I do not see any other outcome. Such a bizarre fall from grace.
Interested to see what coach they can bring in to replace Woodcroft and what he might do to turn the team around.

I was thinking about this. Do they slide this far if they have real veteran leadership on that team? Like a Nick Folgino or Corey Perry. They don't have any of that. And I am sorry to me and it not be true but Draisatil seems like a toxic baby. His interviews are brtual.
