Yes, indeed. However if no goalie can be acquired mid-season, then this season is over and a coaching change becomes meaningless unless all of a sudden, this team learns to play differently (and with 4 different coaches, the last one being an excellent coach, they haven't).
So that leaves the Oilers season already tanked with 30 something games to go.. if we believe that the acquisition of a goaltender alone can make the difference...?
Teams may be reluctant to trade a goalie in-season, but if you pay enough, you'll get one. It's not like it hasn't happened before. Like Bishop going to LAK from Tampa for a first rounder one year, in recent memory.

It's not impossible, I agree. To be fair, Mike Smith really hasn't been healthy enough to get into a groove yet either so for all they know, their answer could also be in the room in Smith. That's being optimistic but not unrealistic.

Another sign that Woodcroft is a much better coach than Dave Tippett:
Devin Shore - 2:57 of ice time and zero minutes after the 4 minute mark of the 2nd period and this is after being a healthy scratch for Woodcroft's first two games.

Because Devin Shore is, by many accounts, one of the worst players who has played regularly in the NHL in the past 3 seasons and Dave Tippett still played him more than a lot of his much better forwards.
