Can the Oilers fire Tippett now?

How in the world do you bench a dmen 3 minutes into his first NHL game because he was on the ice for 2 goals against? The first goal against Samorukov made the right play by going for a 50/50 puck instead of backing up to defend a 3 on 1 from the redline in. He got an unlucky bounce when the puck went off his skate and still went towards the net where Thomas could pick it up. If that pucks hits his skate and goes into the corner, everyone would be saying what a great play he made.

The second goal, he got beat by Jordan Kyrou which happens a lot. That's a mistake Samorukov won't make again but it happens. I don't think these were even the two biggest mistakes on goals against in this game...see Duncan Keith defend on the 3rd and 4th goal against yet somehow Duncan Keith played 26:50 in the game. Also, Even Bouchard was 5th in ice time among dmen for the Oilers.

Tippett is now on a 7 game regulation losing streak.

Now that Tippett decided to staples Samorukov to the bench for the rest of the game, he's likely lost as an Oilers prospect.

Make it NINE straight losses for Tippett.

    Also:
    Devin Shore 16:50
    Jesse Puljujarvi 15:17

Can anyone tell me how or why he's still employed?

Holland is about to pay a 1st round pick for MAF when he could have gotten him for free instead of trading for Keith and re-signing Smith.

How could he have acquired Fleury for free?

Vegas traded MAF to CBH for prospect Hakkarainen who was later released. Vegas just wanted the money off their books. I meant "MAF for free" as in what to give up, not for $0

Well Chicago had the luxury of having the cap space to take on all of Fleury's contract so even if Holland wanted to pay a prospect for him (get him for free as you say), he didnt have the cap space, so it's a moot point. That's the only reason Chicago got him at a discount; they took on his contract.

Guess what. Edmonton still cant afford to take on all his cap so there will be other moving parts if a deal happens.

That's why I said "instead of trading for Keith/re-signing Smith". Everyone knew MAF was on the block so I don't really care about Smith's re-signing timing or the Keith trade timing. Smith is a 'oh crap we have no goalie, lets get him' type of signing, and Keith trade...everyone was surprised CBH didn't need to add a pick with him to get him off the roster. So, to me (unless I'm missing some public knowledge), Holland could have gotten MAF. Even could have involved a 3rd party team and gave something up if they wanted too.

Holland could have gotten MAF and he had the space if he was thinking. Same with Nedel but I'll give him a pass as Carolina even surprised Detroit with that one.

I am sure that helped Chicago's ability to acquire him.

It's always easy to assume we know what went on behind the scenes but none of us do. For all we know, Fleury said no to an Edmonton trade seeing as he has a modified 10 team NTC. 9 times out of 10, the Canadian cities are usually most of the 10 teams in those clauses.

We have no clue when it comes to negotiations and whats going on behind closed doors.

There was rumours Edmonton, Vancouver, and MTL weren't on his MNTC list in 2020. He easily could have readjusted his list, but at least at some point, the list was rumoured not to include Edmonton. And I think those lists are up for "re-listing" on July 1st. So if we wanted to get into hypotheticals deep Holland could have gone after him in June. Could have leaked he tried (lets be real, the Edmonton organization is not a fortress). My post was more of a joke of another Holland mis-step from the 2021 summer. Oh well.
