Because they need a LW shooter/finisher and that's exactly what Hoffman is, and Hall isn't.

Suspect NHL teams, including Oilers, are going to wait out Blues on Mike Hoffman to see if price comes down for the rental Or, maybe Oilers see little too much of Athanasiou in Hoffman and take pass. Holland and Blues' GM Doug Armstrong are tight, working on Canada's Olympic team

It's been a good month. Not great, but a positive in that the right side is healthy and playing relatively well. I know many would like to see Ethan Bear punted into the sun, but that's another conversation.

Waiting to see the terms on this conditional pick the Oilers sent for Kulikov. Is this an upgrade on the left side? Koekkoek could be back and delivered strong results early but what would he offer today? Russell has been reasonable but you'd prefer he wasn't a top-4 guy. Caleb Jones has been a bit of a rollercoaster, so the answer is maybe?

Ken Holland said they wouldn't pursue depth but I guess if Kulikov is partnering with Larsson and playing some PK minutes he doesn't constitute "depth".

Can you imagine a team with the NHL's two top leading scorers running a defense that has Kulikov, Russell and Larsson all in the lineup every game? That's 3 dmen who can't make a pass. Add to that a top pairing of Nurse and Barrie who are both terrible defenders and you have a recipe for a quick first round exit.

They are going to have at least 2 of their 5 best dmen in the press box every night. This is terrible asset management for a guy who makes $5,000,000 per year.
