Well, hockey is back in Winnipeg. It was nice seeing the great atmosphere in the building and I'm glad that their fans get a team back. The Habs went in and played a great road game and set the tone with a quick goal by Mike Cammalleri off of a turnover. That took some air out of the building which was a huge lift for the visitors.
Obviously, a post-game report would not be complete without discussing the latest Canadiens injuries. Jaroslav Spacek appeared to hurt his ribs while receiving a check and did not return. Cammalleri was cut by a skate above the knee and will apparently be out two weeks. I'm glad it wasn't a worst injury because those skate blades can cause major damage, but these guys are dropping like flies!
I was happy to see the team continue to play hard despite the injuries and inevitable line juggling that happens with such a short bench. Tomas Plekanec was the best player on the ice tonight, scoring once and adding two assists to lead his team.
A pleasant surprise was Travis Moen, who suddenly acquired the skills of skating speed and good hands sometime during the second intermission. First he surprised everyone with an impressive spin-o-rama that nearly resulted in a goal, and later outskated two defenders before deking Pavelec for a goal.
Yannick Weber had a rough start with a few bad turnovers but settled in once he became a regular in the D rotation following Spacek's departure. He finished with two points which is important for his confidence.
In goal, Carey Price was spectacular. Nothing bothers him. The only shot that beat him was due to two players pushing him all the way into the net. His focus, rebound control and stickhandling are scary good.
Up next: Thursday vs Flames in the home opener.
Stat lines of note
Tomas Plekanec: 1 goal, 2 assists, 1 PPP, +3, 2 shots, 1 hit, 13 faceoffs in 22 minutes
Yannick Weber: 1 goal, 1 assist, 1 PPP, +2, 2 PIM, 3 shots, 2 hits in 17 minutes
Travis Moen: 1 goal, 1 assist, +2, 3 shots, 1 hit in 15 minutes
Carey Price: 30 saves, .968, 1.00, W

Noteworthy items:Medical updates: Jaro Spacek will be out two to three weeks, Michael Cammalleri 10 to 14 days.
Lines at practice: Moen-Plekanec-Cole; Pacioretty-Gomez-Gionta; Darche-DD-AK46; Eller-Engqvist-Palushaj. D: Gill-Subban; Gorges-Diaz; Emelin-Weber
-Moen again on top line. I don't like it but it's hard to dismiss given how he played last game.
-Eller is on the 4th.
-The inexperience D pair of Emelin and Weber scares me.
