I don't think we can say for sure why he vetoed, if he even did. But it may sound better to say, I want to stay in the East than I don't like team X.
I also don't know what his family situation is. In any event, I agree with Eric. Nothing wrong with a player exercising his contractual rights.
Actually, it doesn't sound like a veto at all.
Eric Engels says he did not have trade protection in his contract. He preferred staying in the East and Bergevin agreed to accomodate him.
Sounds like they want to bring him back next year.
Good on Bergevin in this case. Plekanec has earned the respect of the Canadiens players and fans, it's good to see he has it from management as well.
He's who I've thought of second (after Price) when I think of the Canadiens for a lot of years. As a Bruins fan, it's easy to see what a huge part of the team he's been. I'd wish him good luck in Toronto, but I'm kind of invested in them getting eliminated in the first round. Hah.
