Explaining the parameters of the conditional 4th-round pick in trade: If Lupul is not on the Toronto’s “reserve list” for 40 or more regular season games in the 2012-13 season then Anaheim trades its 6th round pick in 2013 instead of 4th round pick in 2013.

I keep thinking Kaberle and Gustavsson to DAL.
Not for Richards as this is meant to keep richards there. Maybe Ribeiro????
I know they have Jack Campbell but they did like Gustavsson.
All speculation.. Just think Niewendyk is going to do something.

what about Giguere going somewhere ? maybe they pulled Gustavsson off the ice to bring him back up because Giguere is getting dealt to the Caps or Avs .... just thinking out loud

EDIT: Or maybe the isles ... just read this on twitter

Great stuff guys and I dont see them moving Gus?? the heart thing though is not a good sign either as we need him to be healthy if we are to move Giggy. That said if Giggy is willing to take on a backup / mentor role to Reimer and sign for a smaller contract then maybe and just then they move Gus instead.

Like the action by Burke beating the rest of the group to the punch really he has made some good moves since taking over the reins here getting guys like Phaneuf, Aulie, Versteeg, Armstrong, MacAruther and now Lupul and Gardiner just to name a few

Interested to see whats next but happy so far

    From rotoworld.com

John Mitchell has been placed on waivers by the Maple Leafs.
He has three points in 23 games this season for Toronto, but has been unable to get back into the lineup since suffering a knee injury at practice back in early January. Toronto's acquisition of Joffrey Lupul from Anaheim on Wednesday will likely land Mitchell in the minors.

Gus was pulled for precautionary reasons but he did spend the rest of the game as the back up, read that on TSN

I really do hope they don't trade Gus, hes one of my fav leafs, along with Kessel,Verbeauty, Reims, and Kabby

    so lines now will be
    MacArthur - Grabovski - Kulemin
    Lupul - Boyce?/Bozak? - Kessel
    Versteeg - Boyce/Bozak - Armstrong
    Orr - Crabb - Brown(when healthy)

all we need is a top Center and are top six wont look half bad

We pick up that top Centre and we will have a very nice top 6. as for Boyce he will eventually replace Crabb as the 4th line Centre and Bozak will man a very good 3rd line. I am not sure however that Burke will go gun ho for the big top line centre as many still think that guy could be Kadri as early as next year and even then Brunstrom is going to be looking for his spot which I think is the reason Burke see's Versteeg as an expendable player.

Good article on gardiner JD thanks
also if they trade Versteeg to make room for Brunnstrom in the top six I will not be impressed, I'd take Versteeg over Brunnstrom any day of the week, except maybe Sunday(lol)
I do agree though that Burke still thinks Kadri can be that top center the leafs need
a top line of Lupul - Kadri - Kessel would be a very very dangerous line

Versteeg is not a top 6 forward and I too would rather keep him in place of an unproven Brunstrom but depending on the return I think that he is an expendable asset that is garnering a lot of attention and could fetch something nice.

Also I am still very un-confident that Kadri will be able to play centre at the NHL level he just doesnt have what it takes yet to play that position. Not sure if Lupul has ever played centre in his career or just always LW??

I have to agree with your Kadri assessment, he I just too small to play center, but we also know that Kessel can play Center as well so that line could still work out
A big playmaking center would be the best fit though for Kessel

JD what type of return do you think we could fetch for versteeg?

To be honest I would rather keep him too I am not sure what the Leafs are looking for in return the things we need he would have to be part of a package deal to get ala top line centre. Beyond that I see no reason for the Leafs to move him.
