With salary counting and the Sens being thin at forward, I think it's a good trade long-term. Kovalev and Alfie are not exactly spring chickens and I expect their ATOI to continue to decline, which means Regin will get his chance to move up and up. Doan is either hurt or not producing when he's healthy, and he's got a pretty large salary too. Dumping him in a deal like this is a solid plan in a rebuild or just as an effort to get younger.
