I don't think this is as easy to gauge...Its easy to have McBain first, because of all the hype about him by Dobber etc. Shattenkirk, is close to making the big club, but for me, when we are talking about ceiling, and who will be the best down the road...its Smith!!! You don't hear a lot about him, because when you talk about Detroit, and their D, its always Lidstrom, Rafalski, and Kronwall, and for that very reason, the other prospects are largely overlooked. That being said, Lidstrom will retire in the next year or so, Rafalski won't be far behind, and Kronwall is an injury waiting to happen on every other shift...and when healthy, he has proven to be a #2-3 D man. I think Smith is coming along at the perfect time, to step in and get a year or 2 to learn with the dynamic duo, and then take the baton, and run with it.

Also, when we look at a player, and try to figure out what their ceiling may be down the road, you have to consider what the supporting cast will look like as well. Given that, I think playing with Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen et al, is tops! I look at Shattenkirk in the same way, and see Duchene, Stastney, and Stewart, great young team, coming of age together.

    My 3 look like this...

    Smith
    Shattenkirk
    McBain

    Puck

'To do be do be do' - Sinatra.

    Protect 13-15 *$80 Team cap

    C - Bergeron, Zibanejad,
    L - Connor, Marchand, Olofsson
R - Nylander, Wheeler, Gallagher, Rust
    D - Carlson, Josi, Nurse
    G - Vasilevskiy

I'm with Puckhead here. They are close but I like Smith. I think he is a bit underrated maybe due to the fact that the Red Wings tend to take their time with the young players.

    Smith
    McBain
    Shattenkirk

But they are 3 great prospects to own and in a keeper McBain and Shattenkirk have more value than Smith...Smith will be in the NHL full time next year I think but will produce in 2-3 years. McBain and Shattenkirk are already in the NHL.
