in a Keeper give me Boychuk.
So, Gilbert is on the wire and I have Boychuk. Which would you rather have in a keeper league that counts pretty much everything - goals, assists, points, +/-, PIM's, PPP, etc.?
Just wondering if Gilbert is an upgrade over Boychuk?
Thanks!

Boychuk. He won't kill your plus minus singlehandidly ala Tom Gilbert.

I would hold onto Boychuk for now although I think he is overrated as an offensive presence. Gilbert is brutal lately.
I actually acquired Gilbert at the beginning of the season as a throw in and dropped Boychuk to make room for him. I stand mby that decision, but I would rather have Boychuk short term. When Gilbert turns it around though, I would make this swap.
Without me, it's only "aweso".
Boychuk is about ready to return. Possibly as soon as this coming weekend. Even though Gilbert put up a PPG pace at the tail end of last season, is it worth waiting for? IMO, the answer is no. Boychuk was on the Top pairing with Chara prior to his Injury, of course, he may lose some of his PP time once Savard returns which is also coming up soon as well. I think longer term, Boychuk is your better option.
Gilbert. He is a slow starter
I'd much rather have Boychuk on my team. Better player and plays on a better team.
I keep hearing this "slow starter" label applied to Gilbert and IMO that is just not correct. It took me to look deeper into his split stats to notice his production trend over his career.
October 45GP 4G 5A 9 PTS 0.20 pts/gm
November 47GP 4G 15A 19PTS 0.40/gm
December 41GP 4G 10A 14PTS 0.34pts/gm
January 39GP 3G 12A 15PTS 0.38 pts/gm
February 36GP 3G 16A 19PTS 0.52 pts/gm
March 49GP 6G 23A 29PTS 0.59 pts/gm
April 17GP 2G 11A 13PTS 0.76 pts/gm
I should mention that November has been his strongest month for PPP over his career with 3PPG and 9PPA -- we haven't seen that arrive this season.
If you look at Tom Gilbert's split stats then you will notice two things:
1. Gilbert is worse in the month of October. However, throughout the remaining months (except March/April) he is pretty steady at a 0.35-40 pt per game pace.
and,
2. Gilbert is only really productive during March (0.59 pt/gm pace) and the very short month of April (0.74 pt/gm pace) so is it really worth keeping Gilbert for 4.5 out of the 7 months? To me, pick him up in February rather than suffering through 2/3 of the year with him sucking up your roster.
Add on top that since the acquisition of Kurtis Foster - Tom Gilbert has royally sucked ass beyond comprehension so IMO there's no gaurantee that he will have his break out in march and april anyways
I just wouldn't recommend waiting around for him to come alive
Thanks everyone for your input! A lot of good, differing opinions but I think I'm going to stick with Boychuk for now. There seems to be less competition in Boston right now and I'm not sold on Gilbert yet...

Dean you are my soulmate. Gilbert "the sucking grape" has been nothing but trouble for me since I drafted him. I thought he had it, but man I just don't get his crappiness. I know the Oil are sucking royal buckets now, but still, who the hell is eating Gilbert's Grapes?!?!
He's pretty untradeable right now and I can't wait until his next 20 pts in 20 games or whatever so I can trade him and my bottles of aspirin.
