Hall trade steal?!

League in sig. I ended up getting Hall from a guy after bouncing a few trades back and forth. He accepted THIS:

His:
Hossa
Hall

My:
Semin
Bourque


.....in a semi-keeper. I can keep both of these guys.

I feel like I stole him. I picked Bourque up off the FA wire like 2 weeks ago. Maybe he didn't see that. He really wanted Duchene too, but I wasn't willing to deal him.

I think I did OK but let me know if I'm an idiot for some reason

i think long term you did well here. would have loved to see you put duchene in that deal instead of semin. but hossa and hall are a great combo. still upset that you had to part with semin, he is just one of those guys that you try not to move at all costs. his injury issue can suck but as you can see with last game he just has the ability to dominate and with the semin, backstrom, ovechkin line rumored to be staying together for a bit that will sting as he will rack up the points.

but again hossa and hall longterm shoudl be great.

I know what you mean, but it wouldn't have been Duchene INSTEAD of Semin, it would have been Duchene AND Semin. Not good.

Well you gotta remember that Hossa is hurt right now and has been showing some signs of decline last season. I personally think Semin is the best player in that deal, but it's not as though you got scraps in return. Semin is a bandaid boy himself.

I think you make out okay here but based on your sig I think you could have kept Semin and better allocated your keepers. Like using a keeper slot on Rinne.

Also - what does everybody think the chances are that Semin returns to Washington at the end of this season? I was gambling on him not sticking around, but you never know.

haha as a NJ fan and the fact that they are sucking now i wish NJ could get semin. a semin kovy line woudl be INSANE. but yeah they cant and wont beable to afford him.

so that being said i dont really see him returning to washington but then again i dont see that as a bad thing. i see him being a big grab by LA. he will be cheaper than what kovy was asking by a mil or 2 and LA can afford that. Semin and kopitar would be sweet. but then again that is a guess bc who knows where he can and will end up.

but anywhere that he does remember that he will most likely be the big name on that team or paired with a big name. that will make him the focal point which he is defently not in washington behind ovechkin, backstrom, green.. semin will be a star where he goes.

Oh, well then I think you did alright. I think there should be some debate to the merits of Hall-Hossa versus Semin-Iginla as keepers but with Iggy in decline it certainly looks as though your package is better. We'll know by the end of the season if this was the right move for the long term.

I don't love it for the short term as you pick up an injured Hossa and an inconsistent Hall but that could reverse itself as we've seen Semin injured enough times before and we know Bourque is no stranger to inconsistency. Plus your team is looks like it's strong enough to weather this initial storm.

That's what I was thinking. Bourque was just a throw-in to be honest. He wasn't getting Duchene+Semin from me.

Now I hope Semin breaks something (ok not really).

Short term I could have some problems, yes. The sooner Hossa gets back the better. Trade doesn't take effect until Saturday, which is kind of a bonus.

Long term, I can only hope Hall turns into the prolific goal scorer that everyone thinks he will be. Otherwise I lose bad. But that's a risk I'll take.

Yeah, you win long term but he clearly wants to win now and couldn't afford to let Hossa's injury or Hall's slow development hold him back. I probably would have done the same trade in a pinch.
