    Default OEL... again

I know theres loads of threads on this dude but none are pertinent for my question now.

He's getting over 20mins a night since last saturday but, no point as of yet, in what capacity are the yotes using him in?

can anyone tell me how much PP time the guy sees?

I dont follow the coyotes that much but are they just not firing on all cylinders? or is this what to expect from their offense all season?

Its still early on in the season and his career so i dont want to drop him just yet in my keeper but if this continues somethings gotta give....

    any help will be repped

EDIT: just checked out frozen pools line combos and found this, but these numbers dont mean too much to me.... expcept he sees both SH and PP and the PP beside Yandle (im assuming 1st unit?)

    41.73% EV 33 AUCOIN,ADRIAN - 23 EKMAN-LARSSON,OLIVER
    28.3% EV 23 EKMAN-LARSSON,OLIVER - 18 LEPISTO,SAMI
    10.07% SH 33 AUCOIN,ADRIAN - 23 EKMAN-LARSSON,OLIVER
    7.67% PP 23 EKMAN-LARSSON,OLIVER - 3 YANDLE,KEITH

he gets a bit of PP time, but Aucoin and Yandle get the most on the team. Phoenix is struggling to score so far this year, but with their defensive-system, they will never score a ton.

I am waiting for Wolski to start putting up some points for me. I own him in all 4 of my leagues.

As for OEL, I've watched him play live a few times over the last two years for Team Sweden, and he really impresses me with his overall game. Because he has such an impressive overall game, he can play in any situation and handle loads of ice-time in the NHL (even as a rookie), but I don't see him putting up very good offensive numbers anytime soon. Look at Hedman in Tampa, for example. The two are very similar.

I wouldn't drop him in your keeper just yet.

last night OEL actually logged the most PP ice-time out of any D on the team, more than Yandle or Aucoin. His ice-time has kinda gone up and down on the PP, some games he gets all the time with Yandle and like last nigth even more, but then the other night v the Ducks he only had 1:04 of PP ice time whereas Yandle had 3:20. Either way he is getting opportunities in all situations PP, PK EV so the cloaching staff clearly like what they see. In a keeper this guy could be gold as soon as next season.

I like the NHL boxscores cause they break down ice-time between Even strength, PP and SH.

    good job, wc17...have some REP.

I like that ice-time breakdown. Even more reason not to drop him.

This was the stat line for Ekman from last night's game.

-------------------- G A Pts +/- PIM SOG EV PP SH TOI
    23 O. Ekman-Larsson 0 0 0 0 0 1 18:19 3:25 1:48 23:32

As you can see, they are using him in all spots. He got the most PP time of any D and his SH time was only about 20 seconds less than Morris and Jovo cop.

What really impresses me about all the ice time he's getting is that Tippet usually really favors vets in terms of ice time (correct me if i'm wrong, guys who have closely followed the Yotes or Stars under Tippett). So this ice time he's getting speaks volumes, Tippet must really think highly of him. I figure you get that kind of ES and PP ice time, the points are bound to come - even if we're not talking a 40+ point season, I figure 30ish which, in keeper leagues, means he's a solid keeper since he won't hurt you so much this year. Now, if his TOI starts to drop, different story, but still very valuable in a keeper league if you can afford a young guy not contributing (or if you have farm team spots, etc.).

OEL picked up an assist and hit a crossbar. Tonights game was the best I have seen him play. Looked so poised with Eric Staal chasing him. Such an all around player. He is a special player and its just a matter of time before the points start piling up for him.

Not just his first assist, but he was +3 tonight as well. What strikes me most from the games I've seen so far this year, is not the amount of minutes, but when those minutes are played. Games where they have been protecting a with a minute left, its most likely that OEL is out there. Tippet really loves this guy, and I wouldn't worry, the points will come.

No way in the world should OEL be dropped in a KEEPER league. A one year league, maybe, but no way in a keeper. You need to be patient with a kid who has incredible skills like OEL has. I mean Doughty only put up 27 points as a rookie.

Watched the Habs Coyotes game last night, to kill two birds with one stone - watch my Habs and watch OEL to see what he can do in a high profile game.

OEL looked really good. As others have posted, the way he moves the puck speaks more to a solid puckmoving vet D than a 19 year old, it's amazing - shades of Niedermayer there. He had only 1 SOG but it was a good one, moving into the high slot and firing a wrister that Price did well to deflect wide.

The only blemish is the defensive side of his game, he looks like he's still raw there and needs technical training. I'm no hockey coach, but the way he defended against that Cammy snipe on the PP in the 2nd period seemed to be off - rather than skating up a little and confronting the shooter he hung back closer to Bryz and went down on one knee to block the shot. Seems to me that elite NHL forwards will eat up those kinds of errors. Same goes for the 1st Plekanec goal, he seemed to be a little lost in front although that was a dazzling set of plays by the Habs and even the vets were flummoxed. That said, this is the normal learning curve for an NHL Dman.

He only had 1:39 of PP time and 16 mins total ice time when all was said and done, so he is losing a little steam there. Still, what I saw impressed me, he is going to be a really special player this kid.

I also read a few articles today indicating that the Bs and Coyotes may be talking trade (Chiarelli plus 3 Bruins scouts were in Montreal yesterday). One has to imagine the Bruins are looking to dump salary but also perhaps to pick up a defenseman in the wake of the Boychuck injury, maybe Morris heading back. I'm keeping an eye on this as an OEL owner, if the Coyotes trade away a vet Dman (e.g., for some scoring help upfront) that can only be a good sign for OEL's ice time for this year.

My prediction - he notches 29 points this year.

Absolutely. You keep 17 in your league? I would go with this and have a filthy defense:

    1.) Luongo (G)

    2.) Kane (RW)

    3.) Ryan (LW)

    4.) Howard (G)

    11.) Yandle (D)

    12.) Letang (D)

    13.) McBain (D)

    14.) Edler (D)

    15.) Filppula (Util)

    16.) OEL (D)
