Default Rask vs Washington: Bad timing?

Tuukka Rask is set to start his second game of the young season, this time against the highly offensive Washington Capitals at home. You have to kind of feel sorry for Rask...who put up great numbers last season, was awesome this preseason (1-0-1, 1.92 GAA, .939 SV%), and was on the losing end of a poor team effort against Phoenix opening night in Prague. The team has picked up it play since opening night, and as you all know Thomas as been the primary beneficiary.

The decision to start Rask tonight against the Capitals is an interesting one. Based off of last seasons numbers, Thomas was better while at home while Rask was the road warrior. Rask has faced Washington only once, losing 3-2 in OT. (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/boxscore...gid=2010040523*Mike Green missed that game as well)

    Pros
-Home game (actual home opener in Boston)
-Bruins have a 3 game win streak (while on road)
-Mike Green missing from Washington lineup
-Washington offense has been subdued lately (2.25 goals per game over last 4 games)

    Cons
-First home game back from a long road trip
-It's been 11 days since Rask last played in a game
-Only career game vs Caps was below average
    -Odds makers favor Capitals

Dobberites, what's your take on this start?
    8 Team Roto League (1-year)

I think it was a bad time to start... His first game he played, the team played absolute garbage in front of him, so they put Thomas in next game. Then, Thomas plays exceptionally for the next few games and then they throw Rask in against the highest scoring team last season while he full well knows he has to compete with a .979SV% and .67GAA.

Except for the 7-2 blowout of puzzling Devils, Caps haven't scored more than 3 goals in any game. Bruins are sound defensively. I see no reason to baby Rask or any other NHL goalie who's beyond a rookie.

I'm on the fence - Rask is a great goalie and he could stone the Caps. B's are playing well. They handled the Caps well last game. However, Boudreau will make adjustments and I would not be surprised in the least to see 4 goals against.

In roto especially with max games, I would likely bench him - discretion being the better part of valor. In a H2H I think I would throw him in.

Anyone feeling sorry for Rask being thrown in against the Caps at home, should remember that Thomas got thrown in against the Caps on the road last game.

I'm rooting for Thomas personally, and no I don't have him on any of my fantasy teams. Seems like a hell of a guy and has been through a lot to get where he is today in the NHL.

Personally as a Thomas owner, I hope your confidence is undermined by the result Big Ev - however, if I was going on hunches alone, I think I would start him too, now that I think about it some more.

I'm glad to see this thread... I have half an hour to decide who to start...

    Rask Home Opener versus WSH
    Quick @ PHO
    Khabibulin Home versus MIN

only two of three can start...

    TOUGH

G,A,+/-, PIM, PPG, SHG, GWG, OTG, FOWs, Hits, Blks, Maj, Mis, (bonus scoring for D-men makes them comparable to Wing)
    Wins, Saves, GA, Shutouts

    18 Man Roster (3 IR slots) Daily Start: 2C, 4W, 4D, 2G

    C: Zibanejad, Thomas, Tavares
W: Stutzle, Robertson, Connor, Buchnevich, McCann
D: Makar, McAvoy, Josi, Theodore, Matheson, Harley
G: Georgiev, Binnington, Kochetkov, Andersen (IR)

    Thanks Shoeless!!

I think that's the safe bet... and then I'll just root for Rask not to get crushed...leaving the #1 easily for Thomas.

I watched that 1st game BOS vs. PHO, and the Bruins looked like Intermission Mites... they were sooooo sssaaaaallllllooooooowwwwwww! Didn't Rask stone three breakaways before the flood gates opened... and then one goal was a 5 on 3... I think... as you can tell I am a frustrated Rask owner.

Coach might have seen something in the pre-game skate he didn't like, Big Ev.

Hard not to go with Thomas when his numbers are so stupid. Lots of time for Rask yet this season.
