Out of the blue, I just read that he's having arthroscopic knee surgery today. This always seems to happen to me...

This would be a huge loss for detroit.

Apparently it's "minor" knee surgery. Sounds like an oxymoron to me.

It always starts off as "minor"... this sucks for me, I have Lidstrom and Howard as well and they will both be impacted by this lol

Does anybody know how long this type of surgery usually sidelines a player for?

assuming they don't find any tears or major issues; it should take about 2 weeks to heal and then another 2-3 weeks to work it out and get it back into game shape.

Pronger's surgery in August sounds similar.

Now if they find a tear it's bad news.

A month sounds right - Artho is usually pretty un-invasive, however the point of it is usually to determine if there is anything major wrong with the knee... if they find something it could be a lot longer.

Latest report is he's out 3-4 weeks. Could be worse I suppose. Question is will he be the same Rafalski? Thank god I picked up Goli.

Now I've got my eye on McBain or Liles to sub for him.
