I don't think anything has changed with the Neuvirth/Varly situation really. The Caps are playing back-to-back games to begin the season, so both of them would have probably gotten a start. I actually think that Boudreau is starting Varly on home ice could mean more. Bottom line: things are far fro decided yet, and there's a good chance they won't even be decided by season's end.
Regarding Howard, sure he plays on a great team, but I am still worried about his long term value. The other three goalies have an elite skill set, whereas Howard's skills are merely average. I think there's a reasonable chance he might hit a sophomore slump and Osgood could steal a lot of starts, and even if he doesn't slump too badly, the Red Wings defense is getting awfully long in the tooth. Won't be long before Lidstrom and Rafalski are gone.
For this reason I would take Rask and Halak.
