Why has Backlund not been in any pre-season games so far? I thought he was higher on the depth chart than Bobrovsky, but it looks like Bobrovsky's had lots of ice, and shown well too.

I believe that Johan Backlund is still rehabbing a hip injury.

    Correct. Backlund is still rehabbing.

Bobrobsky has really taken the opportunity to turn some heads.

Agreed. At this point I don't see how Bobrovsky isn't a top 50 goalie. We all know it's a matter of time until Boucher crumbles and Bob takes over...

That of course, is presuming that Leighton is out more than a month.

Holmgren isn't the king of forthcoming information.

I've also been reading that Leighton's problem can't be solved in a month. It's surgery. And it's a long rehab.

I agree that the Leighton injury will be longer than Homer has said. He's painting a more rosy picture than it really is, just pushing it along in an effort to keep it off the front page here in Philly. It's not really working though.

The Bobrovsky situation is really, really interesting. The conventional wisdom has to be that a whole year (or at least part of one) in the A would be essential to the kid's maturation process and acclimatization to the North American game. But given the injuries to Leighton and Backlund, The Bob has been pushed into a situation he really shouldn't be in, especially considering he went undrafted. Granted, it's only preseason hockey, but he's responded with great numbers and steady play. Thus all the "Bob Hype" in Philly. And unless Homer brings in another goalie from outside the organization by next Wednesday, Bob will make the opening night roster and be Boucher's backup. It will be interesting to see if Coach Lavvy gives him any starts early, especially if Boucher gets lit up at any time. I would suspect the team would like the more-experienced Backlund to get healthy and assume the No. 2 role behind Boucher here in Philly until Leighton returns, allowing The Bob to play every day at Adirondack.

Hey, it's Philly and it's goaltending. It's wacky, we know. But it's all we know here. So we live with it. All you guys with your proven #1 goalies....what's that like?!? :-)

well said AFlyers66... it's a good thing our team is stacked everywhere else!!

Some of these kids are gonna require big salary boosts very soon... I'm thinking we're so deep up front, we must be able to find a trade partner who is deep in the crease, or who has a gem stuck behind a star (then again... there must be a reason Philly has so many youngsters on the farm)

So assuming Leighton is done for a good chunk of time, who would be the starter?? Boucher obviously right? But will he falter? Will Bobrovsky be able to hold onto this job and win for the Flyers?

    I need help now. HAHA..
