I'll start by saying I'm disappointed a bit in my tending. I regret picking Rask over Fleury and I feel I picked Neimi too soon, but they were dropping like flies. I however like my overall depth to hit every category, especially my wings. At the end of the day, this isn't my favorite draft but I'm ok with it. I'm pretty sure I'll be quick to wheel and deal in order to improve my tenders.

    Full Analysis to come.

I lost more picks two and three in-front of me in this draft than i ever have in any draft i can remember.

    Damn you gunners.

That said i'm still second guessing my first pick of Brodeur over top of Lundqvist. But at the end of the day i think Marty has 1 more year left in him.

And my third goalie pick up of Leclaire is a swing for the fences trade option. So hopefully i can parlay him into a bit more offense.

All in all i got a lot of the high risk high reward picks i wanted. O'Sullivan, Tanguay, Jones.

I'm content with the draft if not truly happy.

Here's a report based on my notes.

    Alex - lusshouse - L'entêté

This is my first real roto league and draft, and the first time in such a competitive environement. With my 13th pick, I sure hope to obtain a solid LW or G. I eye Heatley or Lundqvist. I think one or the other could fall to me. Since drafting 13th, it means I'm getting 3rd pick in the even rounds. So it's my pick - four picks - my pick - 24 picks.

As it came to my pick, here's what's left atop of my list : Lundqvist, Rinne, Ryan, Doughty, St Louis, Kane.
Went for King Lundqvist, and I'm hoping that a solid RW would make it back. In all honesty, I didn't check Cs at all, but later noticed that H Sedin and Backstrom were both available. My bad.

I could have went for St Louis or Doughty, but went with biggest name other than Cs. I chose Kane. He'll throw in points in tons and solid stats all around.

Kinda hoped for Ryan to still be there, as he was undrafted 2 picks before mine. But he was gone. I know LWs will be tough to come by, so I will settle for Cammalleri instead. I think he'll improve on last year's numbers. And it's nice to have a home pick. On my queue is Pronger, Boyle, or Weber for the next pick.

The goalies are flying out like craaaaazy! I didn't count how many have gone by, but that wasn't part of my strategy to reach for a goalie here. I looked at Price, Backstrom, probably Niemi or Leighton and thought that these were all goalies I didn't like. I decided to stick to the plan and go with Pronger. He will go up in plus-minus and will give me shots, points and PIMs.

I don't want to draft a goalie, but it appears like I'll have to. Pretty much everybody has 2 now except a team or two. If I want a starting one, I must draft one. D-man are under-drafted right now. So are RW. I may go for a RW (Franzen, Brière) or a D (Visno or Gonchar) and wait for my G in 4 picks. Angels and Ringsters -- the two teams behind me -- both have 2 Gs already. Lubomir is my pick. I really think he'll score tons of goals, which will be very valuable from the blueline.

Oh well. Changed my mind again. No chance I get a goalie here. They all suck from now on. Either Ellis or a long-shot with Chris Mason or Neuvirth or some guy like that. I'd rather go for Mikko Koivu, a solid all-around pick. He's my first C. And I'll get a goalie next round. Maybe.

A few picks ahead of me, I still have to choose between a goalie or Krejci. If Krejci is there, he's my pick. Otherwise, I might have to go for Huselius on the way back. Or Lehtonen. Krejci it is. With Savard out, he'll be the go-to guy for Boston. He'll get the PP time and will play with solid wingers. I love this pick.

And on the way back, it's either Lehtonen, Hudler or Huselius. I've got a few playmakers already. And I think the drop-off between Lehtonen/Ellis isn't all that bad, just in case. Will go for someone who'll give me more goals. Jiri Hudler. Detroit will rebound.

OK, so goalies are still a priority and I'm pushing my luck. I feel like I need a tougher, more PIM-wise guy. I've got good offensive guys. A shot at PK Subban? He could rack-up 'em both! But I'd need a LW too. Is it too early for Avery? People start to look at 3rd Gs. I MUST make a choice. Chris Mason, Dan Ellis or Corey Crawford. Ellis has the best mix of decent team vs. chance of getting starts. I'll probably snag Crawford on the way back as an insurance. I grew up in Crawford's hometown and played minor hockey with him when we were like 8-9. He was still a forward back then and dominated. Dan Ellis is the pick.

Going for Crawford. He's going to get Ws if I need wins, while Ellis might get the saves. And I think he'll relegate Turco to back-up job before Christmas. And right after this pick I put two guys on my queue : Subban and Avery. Hoping one of them makes the whole turn-and-back...

Just noticed the two guys picking between my picks are thin in Ds. Will go for Subban if I get to choose between the two. And I get that chance. So Subban it is. He's filling in for Markov and I like him as a Calder candidate for 40+ points and a couple of goals. He'll be the shooter on the PP. Third emotional pick. I don't like doing that.

I think a fourth D-man isn't too much now. People are thin there and I think there may be a crack here to load up on Ds and have one or two available later on. Pitkanen is a safe pick for points and PIMs. And after thinking about it, I don't like Avery. A lot. Need to look for LWs for my next pick.

Brunette, Whitney are my next picks. Must learn to choose vets over tons of "might be" like Paajarvi. He's a sexy pick, but it's way too early. I might need a C, too. But one of the two teams in between has 4 Cs already. So Brunette is the pick for me.

On the way back, I'm looking at adding a C. It's Gagner or Horcoff. Will blindly put my team into the hands of Dobber. Horcoff it will be.

I think I underprepared for the draft. I didn't realized how quickly my lists are disappering. And I ain't sure how much PIMs I need to remain competitive. Well, will go for the PIMs. Steve Ott is a solid candidate at 40-120. I'm a bit mad to see his C eligibility. I hope he gets some W later on.

Need offensive wingers. Stempniak or Vrbata? Will go for a bigger upside. Matt Moulson. He may repeat with Tavares around. May. Here's hopin'...

Alright, still trying to fill up my wingers. Have 2 RW spots open. How about Grabner? I think he has upside in Florida. Still have Stempniak on my queue. He got picked ahead of me. Why not peak at D? I see Schultz still available. Got a couple of bubble +/- guys. Let's pick him and see for next pick. Jeff Schultz.

Alright so this comes down to Purcell or Grabner. I like Purcell's upside a little better because he could end up on Lecavalier or Stamkos lines. But I think he struggled to maintain his top-6 status and it's unclear he'll do. I think Grabner will secure that spot, even if it means weaker players. I'll go for more ice time. Michael Grabner.

I'm going for sexy here. I'll go hail mary with OEL. I think Ekman-Larson will make this team and be a solid PP contributor.

And now I'll go for my fourth LW on the way back. I like Matt Cooke's upside for both plus-minus and PIMs. Probably a 30-120 guy. After picking him, it crossed my mind that I might end up with too much PIM.

Need a 4th RW and want to get a nice back-up for my OEL. Looking at either Hillen, Gunnarsson and Shattenkirk. The temptation to go for another long-shot is there, but I'll take the guy who'll eat some of Streit's PP time. Jack Hillen.

And my 4th RW will be Teddy Purcell. To be able to scoop him that much later than I first queued him... is it a sign ? Is it? Humm...

Well, time to fill up the bench with my last back-to-back picks. Already have a G and a D, so forwards it will be from now on. I see that Peverley isn't taken. He's scooped a few picks ahead of me. Next on my queue is RJ Umberger. Beyond that, it's getting thin and/or made up of "maybes" and "what ifs". RJ Umberger makes it to me. He's C but he's played wing before. Who knows...

And now time for a bench LWer. Going through whatever's left on my list. I see TJ Galiardi and Tim Kennedy. I hesitate right up to my last 2 seconds... And go for Kennedy. Not really sure why. I'm pretty sure it was the wrong pick. Galiardi will see time on the top line again. He hasn't produced up to a decent level, but he'll be given the ice time. Kennedy has upside, but NYR is filled with "might be" players.

Final pick went down like this : either I want a RW, either I want Lupul and send him to my IR, either I want an undrafted rookie. So, it came to Sexton, Lupul or Hodgeson. I think Hodgeson will get winger eligibility soon, but not sure if it's RW or LW. I think it's the best pick left for me.

I think I'm ok with this team, but a bit disapointed I missed out on a more solid #2G. Didn't realize there'd be 7 of 'em going out in the same round... We'll see. I'm learning the format.

Angels of Harlem here. I had no intention whatsoever of taking a centre till at least the third round. But how the hell did Backstrom fall that far? Couldn't resist snagging a top-5 scorer with the 15th pick, but it changed my whole strategy.

Because we all used the same strategy. And by doing so, I forgot to even look at my Cs. I never expected Backstrom to be available at my pick.

Yeah, I guess that's it. Ah well, no complaints here; I'm still pretty happy with the wingers I ended up with, especially since Sharp (and soon Dubinsky, I believe) can be used on the wing or at C.

I'm not sure why I passed up Backstrom at 12th overall either. I had all these thoughts goin through my head. Do I pass on a 100pt center? Do I pick him? Why have these guys passed up Backstrom? Is there something I don't know about him?

It seemed like the Pro Leagues have let him drop too.

Anyway, so I went with Heatley. Being in San Jose and loving the LW/RW, I went with Heater.

My plan for the first round was to grab Luongo, Brodeur or Miller if they fall to me. Of course they didn't. Lundqvist was in my sights, but at the end, I passed him up.

So after picking Heatley, Lundqvist goes, a couple 100 point centers go, and a couple more goalies in Halak / Rinne go.

I should be going goalie here right? Howard maybe, Bryz, Kipper. I go Datsyuk. Down year last year? I don't care. One of my favorite players, too much talent, I love him.

Many picks between my 2nd and 3rd and I've realized I'm screwed in goal, or atleast I'm not gonna get a top-tier puck stopper.

A mix of picks between my picks, several Dmen, a bunch of goalies and forwards. Most surprising = Turco(30th) / Phaneuf(33rd) / Ehrhoff(44th)

Goalie here maybe? Nope. Gaborik or Cammalleri? Gaborik.

L'entêté once again picks a player I was thinking of picking. Lundqvist, now Cammalleri. Should I have gone Lundqvist? Should I have gone Cammalleri? Oh well.

I'm still with the goalie dilemma and I watch as Ward and Hiller get picked up. I finally decide to step up and pick a goalie. Niemi, Varlamov, S.Mason, Quick, Price, Backstrom. I went with Quick hoping the Kings stick with him. Now I have Bernier on my mind, I plan to pick him up.

Goalies mentioned before are picked up. Add Niittymaki and Leighton to the mix. Kinda surprised on the Leighton pick, heard about an injury, don't know the details. Also a little surprised on the Downie pick. A little early? Maybe. But Hervs got his pts/pim stud.

I think I got an absolute steal here in Chara. 5th round, 77th overall. Man is a beast!

Picked up Stastny 6th round. Not too shabby. Actually had Kessel, Lidstrom and Hemsky lined up.

Many wingers go out here in the 6th and 7th. I had Stewart and Clowe lined up here as I wanted a decent pts/pim player. Both are gone, I go with Laich to fill a LW slot.

Now this is a risky pick, I went Frolov. I'm not a big fan of his and I'm pretty sure many aren't. And I usually don't buy in on preseason hype. But I caved in. I saw a clip of Gaborik/Stefan/Frolov of a powerplay goal they scored and I guess I'm hoping to expect that this upcoming season.

Poor poolster, he couldn't join the draft. poolster's 8th rounder = Mark Streit

Remember that Bernier guy I was hoping to pick? There he goes on Morin Miles' roster.

So Bernier gets picked. I have Kaberle on the queue, should be a sweet steal in the 9th for me. Naw, lucror decides to pick him 2 picks before me.

I go Brian Elliott. I just have this hunch he'll be the next Anderson.

I got two goalies now. Quick and Elliott. Am I happy here? Definitely not. Looks like I've gone with the pick goalies late strategy and hope for the best.

I make back to back picks in goal. Chris Mason. Should I be worried about Pavelec? Maybe I'll try that tandem since I couldn't get Bernier?

Top of my queue, Enstrom, Brown and Pavelec. All taken. I still needed a pts/pim guy and I think Clarkson is a good fit.

    Havlat is my next pick.

Alright, this is getting too long and I'm gettin pretty tired now.

Yeah, I was starting to get very excited at that point, thinking I may be able to nab him at 79th. You stole him out from under my nose.

Good Draft boys. Felt good about my team while I was drafting it but looking back on it all I have to say is "what was I thinking?"
Hopefully with a few waiver wire pickups and a few injuries I can compete.
    Good luck fellas
