    Derek Stepan - C - Rangers

Derek Stepan might center the Rangers' top line on Friday.

Erik Christensen is questionable for Friday's game, which creates a potential opening on the first line. Stepan played part of the preseason on the top line, but he started the season on the third line with Sean Avery and Ruslan Fedotenko. Adding another layer of uncertainty to the situation is that Chris Drury (finger) might return to the lineup on Friday. If Christensen can't play but Drury can, the Rangers might have Drury center the top line. Stay tuned.

absolutely......im looking forward to the next 8 games to see how stepan plays

you see...opportunity works BOTH ways......you can play well, get some points OR you can look completely out of your league on the top line and be riding the pines by period 3............

coulda, shoulda, maybe doesent cut it anymore........time to let the kid play some more reg season games.......

opportunity knocks for every prospect every game.......look at giroux......PHI keeps sticking him with junk and he keeps performing.....every games his opportunity to show flyers brass why there idiots for not sticking him on top line every single game....

For those concerned with Stepan's second game, while he did not put up points he did not have a bad game.
    from Kukla's Korner:

Tortorella also said Artem Anisimov’s line with Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan was the team’s best during Monday’s 6-4 loss to the Islanders and that Derek Stepan’s line with Sean Avery and Ruslan Fedotenko was not far behind.

For ****'s sake, people are not allowed to be concerned because the guy has a 0 point game. He played over 17 minutes. That's called having the coach's confidence. You are insane if you expect point production every single game.

Wow. Come on guys. He's just a rookie. What would we be saying if it was Hall or Seguin? Probably the exact same thing. Sure, he's NHL calibre and I think that he will stick around, but personal opinions aside there is more to hockey then how good a player is. Cap room? bonuses? injuries? A lot has to go right for rookies to make it big. And playing good hockey isn't always good enough.
But seriously, I would rather have Stepan at 875K then Drury at 8M. Waivers anyone?
