1 YR ROTO (goalie issues)

Goalie Categories W, L, GAA, SV, SA, SV% SO

Current roster goalies are Byrzgalov, Niemi. I am looking to pick up another goalie for quality spot starts not total number of starts. On the wire:

Pavelec
Elliott
Dipietro
Bernier
Crawford
Neuvirth
Schneider
Harding
Karlsson
Raycroft
Clemmensen
Gerber
Dubnyk
Khabibulin

I picked up Neuvirth for the time being but there is no guarantee that he will make the roster and shipped back to the minors.

If you are looking purely for favourable matchups I like Neuvirth. WSH is a powerhouse club so really any starts Neuvirth gets will be favourable, if he does get cut I think Pavelec/Elliott would also need to be considered, but more so because they will get a lot of starts compared with the rest.

I REALLY, REALLY like Crawford here. Turco is totally reliant on his team to make him fantasy-worthy right now. Crawford could easily end up stealing the job.

Neuvirth is nice also, but one of two things have to go right for him in order to obtain maximum value: Varly has to either get hurt or he has to play so bad (with Neuvy playing so good in spot starts that he gets more of a look)


Personally, I think I see much better stats and less road bumps for Crawford.

Going for Pavelec or Elliott at this point isn't a neccessity however later on down the road I might have to go that route to get more starts depending on the Neimi situation.

I like Crawford aswell but was battling on whether to go with him or Neuvirth. I am thinking that the Cap's may give Neuvirth some starts early to access where they are at. I am not totally sold that Varlamov is going to be a workhorse or even the guaranteed starter. Thoughts?

I think Varlamov has definately EARNED the start, and will be given it to start with.

As for him to be a workhorse, I dont see that happening with his injury history, but i think he should still play 50-55 of the caps games.

I think they would much rather start off seeing where Varly is at and how much they can get out of him. Since they love him and he will be at optimal health and rest, this is the time to play him a bunch. To me, until he is injured or slumps, he is going to see at least 3 or 4 out of every 5 starts.

Do you think the potential gains from Crawford (early) will be greater than Neuvirth? I really just need spot starts (i'm being optimistic). 60/22 spilt in Washington? Chicago split?

As long as we're talking wild cards, wild cards that could be 80 pointers this year due to injury/poor play by the partner in their tandem/great play by them:

I'm not riding the Dipietro railway but it could be a possibility. He is definately boom or bust and there are plenty options on the wire for my purposes. I am starting to lean towards Crawford now that another voice is saying the same. This was my original order of preference.

I am pretty sure at least 5 teams will be jumping into the market for goalies at some point (when reality sets in).
Team A Quick/ Thomas - hhmm Thomas supporter
Team B JSG/ Turco - definately going to the well (guess he believes lateral movement improves for JSG)
Team C Varly/Rask/Gustavson (maybe not this one) - Gusto insurance for Varly, why not Neuvirth, Crawford etc...?
Team D Backstrom/Nittymaki - Almost the same situation as mine
Team E Leighton/Leclaire - crying for help in short order

With 4 teams potentially going to the well I really want the best candidate for spot starts to the end of the year. It seems to me like its pretty close between Crawford and Neuvirth.
