A Hockey Toast

I\'m bored at work and the last man in the office on a Friday afternoon. So to kill some time, here\'s a toast my buddies and I worked up a couple of years back.

Here\'s to the tee-shirts and the jerseys
And the hockey frame of mind,
And believing that it matters
How you put them on each time.

It\'s for those special words not spoken
Especially during games.
And for leaping from your seat
During fights and breakaways.

It\'s not just cheering for the snipers,
When they dent the twine.
It\'s loving all the grinders
On the fore checking line.

Red light goes on, the horn goes off,
Ovation from the stands.
High fives around and Rock \'n Roll, *hey*
The chorus from the fans.

Arm hair\'s on end, dust from the rafters
A goalie chant gets loud.
Between the pipes the final factor,
Sieve or savior for this crowd.

\'Cuz when The Shiny Thing is lifted,
And all the tears and blood are shed,
Although our names won\'t be there,
It\'s believing that we mattered,
If only in our heads.

This is hockey
I\'m a fan.

Yes, we can do the entire thing, even when drunk. No, we don\'t name The Trophy, especially not during the playoffs. We also don\'t mention shutouts, hat tricks, or anything else that could affect the mojo. So words to that effect are left out, so that we can be comfortable doing the toast at any time.

Use it, abuse it, change it up if you\'d like. As long as you enjoy it.
